In addition, purebred dogs are more expensive for a reason, not just to cover costs of breeding, etc. but also because if someone must save up their money for a purebred dog, they're likely to have done their homework/research on what that breed-standard is and make sure it's the kind of dog that fits the needs and unique qualities of their home.

People who buy or adopt puppies WITHOUT doing their homework, without making preparations that THESE DOGS WILL LIVE 15 YEARS (or so) - that's a long time. It's a HUGE commitment......the people who just adopt these dogs without having to make that initial sacrifice, these dogs are so much more likely to end up in shelters and rescues...and even worse, put to sleep.

I'm not saying people can't love a mix. I would never say that. Every dog, regardless of breed or lack thereof...deserves to be loved and spoiled to pieces! My point is that if you do breed a dog, please take into consideration where your dog's puppies are going to be 10 years from now. There's more than one angle to it, but if you're going to take on such a responsibility, please make sure to consider all of these angles.

Getting more serious here, breeding just for the sake of breeding and esp breeding mix breeds without any ryhme or reason is a bad bad idea. I've posted ad nauseum about why its a "bad bad" idea. But please take my word on it.

One issue that hasn't been covered here (and I apologize if I just missed it) is... are you SURE you want to breed your little boy? Have you learned all you can about what happens to a boy once you stud him out? I can't speak for all male dogs of course but I used my male toy poodle once to father a litter and we really had problems after that with him marking in the house. Since then, I've read that this is a typical problem once they get used as studs. Not something to be taken lightly. Just wanted to point that out in case you hadn't heard of it. I'd be interested in hearing other opinions on that aspect of it also....

If I stud him out just this once, And then get him fixed later (which i was planning on doing) will he still act like he wasnt fixed??

i never bred but IMO he will aact fixed. many people stud their pup n then fix them

I'm not sure because I didn't get Dax fixed after that but I have read (I think on this board) that you'll still have problems. Maybe someone who has more experience with breeding will speak up....
