| All my 3 pooches stayed at the vets overnight after their neutering but they did have 24/7 supervision and all was great. I agree, if you can crate him and keep him absolutely still then the pooch will be a lot more comfortable at home than all alone and feeling abandoned. good luck

When Sadie got Spayed they let her have a late dinner a few hours after she got home. She ate it all and no throwing up or anything!

| I brought both my dogs home after their spay and they did fine. It makes no sense to leave them if there is no one there, and also, I believe they do so much better being in the comfort of their home and with family. They can relax and heal, rather than fear where they are and what's happening.

| I would never let bella stay if they didn't have 24/7 staff there. I brought her home a few hours after surgery. Once when she had an emergency she had to stay but my vet loves her and took her home bella got to sleep in her bed! haha

| I had the same problem. Jezebel's vet insisted she stay overnight. It worried me so much I stayed up all night getting YT advice. I called the vet the next day and told them I was not going to let her stay over night because there was no one there after 6 pm. The receptionist informed me they could not do the procedure unless she stayed there afterwards. I had all of her vet records transferred to a different vet office. On April 10th, she was spayed, microchipped, and had five teeth pulled. She came home late that afternoon. I will never regret the discission to change vets. Her new doctor is much more caring and I trust him more

| Having been in the business of managing a clinic for 11 years I think a lot of these philosophies come from some of the old-time vets who are not willing to make changes. 10 years ago it was not as common to have people care about their companions as we do. A lot of the animals that came in to be spayed and neutered were "yard dogs" and yes it was better if they spent the night, even if no one was there because at least they were confined to a kennel. We changed our way of doing things 6-7 years ago when we all as staff decided as all of you stated - why leave them here with no supervision - duh! Of course they are going to be much happier and better taken care of at home by most people. We still have the occasional owner who will ask if they can stay the night. I, like all of you agree. When my Gizmo had knee surgery last June he was supposed to spend the night. They have 24/7 care, was one of the best specialist office in East Tennessee, BUT no one can take care of him like me. I asked, and he came home. Actually, because of my experience, was allowed to bring him home before he was fully awake. The vet knew I would call her if I needed her, and I never left his side for several days. That is what dog ownership should be about. Right! |
