A lot of the animals that came in to be spayed and neutered were "yard dogs" and yes it was better if they spent the night, even if no one was there because at least they were confined to a kennel. We changed our way of doing things 6-7 years ago when we all as staff decided as all of you stated - why leave them here with no supervision - duh! Of course they are going to be much happier and better taken care of at home by most people. We still have the occasional owner who will ask if they can stay the night. I, like all of you agree. When my Gizmo had knee surgery last June he was supposed to spend the night. They have 24/7 care, was one of the best specialist office in East Tennessee, BUT no one can take care of him like me. I asked, and he came home. Actually, because of my experience, was allowed to bring him home before he was fully awake. The vet knew I would call her if I needed her, and I never left his side for several days. That is what dog ownership should be about. Right!
Yes, it is all about taking care of our pets! I can understand if there is a situation where a member of the medical staff would be with the pet 24/7 to make sure that nothing went wrong, and if it did, then they would be qualified to treat the pet. But that isn't the case here. When our Maltese was neutered at this same clinic, we got to bring him home the same day, and that was about 6 years ago. So I don't understand why they told me Logan would have to spend the night. Of course, the neutering did not take place today due to abnormal blood work. But when and if the time comes for him to be neutered, I will INSIST he come home that same day.
