Oh I would freak if that happened to me. I am terrified of bees and if t hey were on my baby...I would die. I am so glad she is okay, I'm sorry you had to go through that.

I am sure that was very frightening for you. I am glad things worked out well.

I love bees. I am not afraid of them at all. I suppose that is because I grew up with them. We had numerous hives on our property. They are fairly passive unless they have cause to feel threatened. Then they are a force to be reckoned with (which we learned more than once as children

) and they all get in on the act except the queen and the drones...it's all up to the little guys to take care of the hive. Unless you are talking about killer bees and then you have a real problem on your hands. They attack without provocation.

We had a swarm in our back yard some years back. I was out there with them and freaked my neighbor out. They were flying everywhere. She was very afraid for me and I told her it was not a problem because they were only interested in where the queen was so they could keep up with her. We called a beekeeper and they came out and got the swarm. The little boys that lived behind us were very foolish as they were shooting at them with their water guns. That could have turned nasty.

Do you know that we are actually having a bee problem in the US? Something is killing them. We really need them to pollinate the crops. Without them, no fruit or veggie from anything that begins with a bloom.... I am hoping this gets resolved soon.

I am sorry. I know your post didn't request information regarding apiarist issues. I guess I just couldn't help myself.

OOOps. One very important thing I forgot to mention.... when your pet gets a bee sting, if there are any stingers reamining on them...DO NOT grasp it with your fingers to get it out. There is a part that remains that contains MORE venom and if it is squeezed it will push more venom in. There are those that are naysayers to this and call it a myth. Not true.

Get something flat and thin and run it across the skin of the area that the stinger is attached to (a credit card, the paper part of a matchbook...something thin like that). This will remove the stinger without any danger of forcing more venom into the victim. Use cool compresses but no ice.

No, thanks a lot for this post and the one above that you posted. We got a # from the ER vet to call about the bees but I am curious on how you think they should be removed. the hive is in the ground on the base of a tree. do i need to get the tree removed as well? will they just come back if not? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Bees scare the beejeebus outta me.

On page 11 there is someone in your area that is a beekeeper. Try to get in touch with them and see if they can/will come get the bees. If not, continue to search that document for others in your area. I stopped searching after I found the one.

Funny...sorta....

Today I noticed there were about thirty or forty honey bees swarming on my back porch and all around the grated roof vents along the edge. Upon further observance, I saw them going into the holes by the two light fixtures where we took the covers off. We are planning to put two fans there.

This means that the queen bee is already in the attic.

So I took some screen and duct tape and covered those fixture areas. Hoping this will prevent them from coming and going...perhaps the hive will die off. So sorry to do that but they will be getting in the house from the attic. No beekeeper is going to go into my attic full of bees.

I just thought this pretty ironic since this discussion just recently took place.

I am so glad shes o.k. just yesterday in northern calif. my renter called said bees in my room. we sprayed out side..warning time of year

How much Benedryl do you give a Yorkie. I assume it goes by weight? I want to get some Benedryl liquid for children (over 2yrs) and keep it handy in case Tootsy gets stung in the throat. She is very interested in bees and wasps and it is a worry to me as she will eventually get stung!

I'm sorry I don't know as mine was administered by the ER vet. I would call up your yet and ask though to be on the safe side.
