I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I puppy mills one side of the spectrum and Peta on the other, with most of us somewhere in the middle, and I believe both extremes are cruel.

My Little Man! Donating Member | I agree with you guys PETA sounds like control freaks like MyFairLacy mentioned. They need to be put in place. I agree with stopping breeding with bybs and puppy mills I would like them to disappear completely! I do not agree with pets gone completely its ridiculous! I would be living in one sad world and I refuse! I hear every day therapy dogs help sick people and people who have stress related problems.

| I just don't understand why people can't do the right thing, I wouldn't want Jasmine in the wild...I couldn't protect her or provide a roof over her head for her....

| I honestly didn't know what PETA was all about until YT!!! I'm wanting to see if I can put some of this on myspace page to bring more info to others on this matter, I for one couldn't do without my Yorkies & Goldfish (We have a little pond in our BY) and I'm sure anyone else who loves their animals no matter what they are (Dogs, cats, fish, birds ect...) feels the same way as I do. Could any of U here help me come up with some wording (Don't want to offend anyone by how it is worded on myspace and I'm not that good at wording things as U can already tell by a lot of my post ) and some sites that can be linked to for learning? (Loved the ones here on this thread!) I would like to explain what PETA is about. It is easy to think they are doing good for our animals. And my older daughters knows tons of people who could help spread the word about this and why keeping up with Pet Laws in our own State is important. What do U all think about me doing this & can U help me come up with something good for myspace? |

| I don't know if this post should be here or where it should be (If needs to be somewhere else please move it) but I thought since there was talk of pet laws and such her it might be okay to post it here. Anyways Deana (Thank U very much!!) has brought the Pet Laws to my attention in my own City, County and State. Well I've been doing nothing for the past 2 days but searching and reading about Pet Laws, who to write/contact and such, while searching I've came across some bad, bad sites on Puppy Mills, Pet Store Puppies and such, it is so heart breaking to view this. I feel I have to get involved somehow! I never in my life seen as I've seen and realized in the past few days (I watched Oprah too). And there's something else (Like the Puppy Mills) that I don't know if people here at YT know about that I think they should be aware of. I never knew about it until I did my searching! Do U think I should put a new thread on YT about what I've found (It's so sad guys and it's here in my own State and not very far from my City that I live in!) I just want to try to somehow help, this is truly killing me, inside my heart is so heavy with this. I never ever thought things like this could happen so close to where I live. I just want others to try to understand how this comes about and how we get these puppies and how they get into the shape they are in. I know those here will and do have their own OPO about things like this. I'm in no way saying all breeders are bad this isn't it, if people would just take a look and read what I've found then they will maybe just maybe think twice about all this as far as Puppy Mills and Pet Store Puppies. What do U all think? I really don't know what to do. I know I'm some how going try to defend Responsible Breeders and try to get something done about the Pet Store Puppies/Puppy Mills here in our area. |

| About the post wanting to stop breeding: I believe YT is able to contribute to less breeding by removing the Featured Breeders, Yorkies for Sale, and even the Nursery sections (and one can go so far as saying the Breeders forum, I'm sure you will). New people sign on to YT just to sell puppies (posting for sale threads with 5 posts etc..). Irresponsible breeders probably do more breeding than normal believing that they'll sell on YT. Anyone can pay money to be a Featured Breeder. I think it might bite into new membership but not by much, which will be good if it's only people looking to sell puppies. It's an outlet to irresponsible breeders period and buyer's have a false sense of security. YT is a big forum and influential to the breed. YT obviously contributes to the Yorkie community wonderful information by caring people, but the contributation to overpopulation should be thought about. JMO. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | This is a COMPLETELY one sided article and states nothing about what PETA or the HSUS has done to improve the welfare of YOUR ANIMALS. Frankly, I am shocked at the extremism I've seen in the replies on this thread - from what I see, you'd fit right in at "extremist" PETA, according to how y'all describe them. If PETA weren't here, you could picture your own babies right this minute in: ***Automobile crash tests ***Live vivisection ***Medical school anatomy labs ***Cosmetic testing (that is now replaced by computer models) I could go ON and ON - PETA did ALL of this, when NONE of it was "fashionable". And, you know what ELSE was "borne" of PETA - all the other more "direct-care" organizations that care for the animals - which are also necessary. Yes, PETA can be annoyingly radical - but sometimes you need a pie in the face to even know that it's there. You need the left, you need the right - and you need the middle - so I believe there is a PLACE for all of these organizations and for ALL of their accomplishments and missions. And, when you bash the crap out of one of them - I think you hurt all of them. PETA is, essentially, a lobbyist organization - and, unfortunately - the animals need a lobbyist organization as well as direct care organizations.

Our shelters are FULL. ALL THE TIME. I used to be a member of the PETA org and while they're a bit WAY out there and extreme - they've done ALOT TO HELP ANIMALS. They may be controversal but I think in the long run their goal is to help animals. The bad press may be true but overall in the BIG PICTURE - they really do get out some serious messages and educate people who really don't know what's happening in our country. Same with the HUMANE Society - everyone screws up - we aren't perfect but in my opinion - they too CARE about animals. If we didn't have these orginazations the pet population would be even WORSE than it is now - the animal testing would be WAY WORSE and many many more dogs/cats and other animals would be put to sleep ..... | |
