| ![]() The puppymill post got me thinking....How do you know if the puppy you purchased has legal paperwork? Like I mentioned in that preivous post, I received my puppy from what I believe to be a backyard breeder. I got her CKC appication in the mail on Friday and have mailed it out today. It shows her parents on the application. Is there a way to verify that these are indeed purebred papers or can I assume that they are because Im mailing them to CKC? |

Any dog may be registered with CKC with a photo and a statement from another stating it...looks like a specific breed. So the sire or dam could've possibly been registered this way. CKC has become the preferred registry of puppymillers and byb...because the breeder incurs no cost for registering a litter. AKC is the only registry in which breeders provide dna test results on litters.

| ![]() There are no guarantees. Fraud is rampant in every aspect of American life and whether you are speaking of AKC or anything else there can be untruthfulness. It's unfortunate, but you just have the honesty of the particular breeder to depend upon. Some wouldn't lie no matter what. Thank goodness there are still some good, honest people out there.

| ![]() I would do careful and well thought out research before purchasing a Yorkie. Vist breeders and do not be in a hurry! You might try some of the breeders at YTCA. Or check with your local kennel clubs or go to AKC shows and meet breeders. Find a breeder that you are comfortable with. There are reputable breeders out here, you just have to do your home-work.

| ![]() A lot of backyard breeders and puppymills try to pass off Silky Terriers as Yorkies and register them with CKC. You can get more money for a yorkie than a Silky so they are dishonest and sneaky. A lot of people who have larger pups probably have a Silky, not a Yorkie. You can get a pet DNA test now for about $70 to find out exactly what breed your dog is.

No. The only way any pup is registered AKC is if the sire and dam were both registered. Sorry.

| ![]() I called the breeder that we bought Sadie from and she told me that the father of Sadie is AKC registered but the mother is not. She is CKC registered and they registered the father as CKC as well. She told me that she has done a dna check on her mother and she is a Yorkshire and would send me paperwork if I wanted it. Thats good enough for me. She also said that if I wanted to breed Sadie later on that I could have a DNA test on her to prove her breed. I love Sadie either way but thought if we did decide to breed her one day, it's good to know her background and that she is what I say (and the breeder) says she is. I ordered a pedigree on her when I sent off for her paperwork for CKC today. |

| ![]() Bigger ears, more terrierish face, lower to the ground and a slightly longer body. The hair usually us not as long on the face and legs. Most are a little larger than a Yorkie. Lots of differences.
