Think I was taken by Yorkie puppy price?

I've already weighed in on this but I would like to add something. Six months ago I was volunteering helping take care of dogs that had been seized from a puppy mill. It made me want a puppy real bad. I had gotten my yorkie when he was 3 1/2 years old so I wanted a puppy. I called a listing in the paper and talked to a hobby breeder in Mississippi (I live in TN) we talked several times and I told her when I got my bonus I would come and purchase a dog. A few days later on a Saturday she called me back and told me to come down the next day and get my puppy. I told her I didn't have the money yet and she said - Did I say anything about money - Well I went down the next day and picked out the puppy I wanted and she gave me his papers and everything and told me to pay her when I could. I said you don't even know me and she said she felt as though she did and she knew I was a great animal lover and she wanted me to have one of her puppies and he is a great puppy, very healthy. I did pay her when I got my money but wasn't that something?

Just trying to figure out if I missed something or if people are jumping to conslusions and being rude?

The original poster seems to be upset with the size of her Yorkie. Otherwise, her dog appears healthy. I guess that's why some people are a bit frustrated and may appear to be rude. Buyers that demand, and pay more, for a smaller 'toy' of an already small dog are the ones that are creating a market for breeders that have no regard to health issues - just size.

A breeder that posted here makes no assertion to size, just health. That's the kind of breeders we should encourage and pay more to for a Yorkie.

If anything, this post is a good educational tool for future Yorkie owners.

I haven't posted here at Yorkie Talk for months but was compelled to add to this one. I had a little yorkie who was only three pounds. She was always very healthy until right before her sixth birthday. She vomited and then seemed better but a couple days later she was sick again so I took her to the vet. The vet had me take her to a vet referral center which had much better capabilities and it turned out that her gall bladder was dying and needed to be removed. This surgery would have been upwards of $5000 upon the nearly $2000 I spent just to diagnose her so I had to make the tough decision to let her go. I never considered her fragile or delicate and even though she only lived to the day after her sixth birthday, she never had any allergy problems or illness.

Breeders can charge whatever they like. Smaller puppies sometimes do take a lot more effort on the part of their breeders to keep alive. You're only looking at what you've paid for the puppy without thinking of the expenses that the breeders have. While they have the right to charge whatever they like, you also have the option to pay it or not buy the puppy. Unless you buy an adult yorkie, no one can guarantee its exact size. Some stop growing very early while others have a growth spurt a lot later. I'm sorry you feel you were taken, but you've learned a lesson. At least you have your dog to love.

WOW what a amazing story and what a wonderful person you found she sounds like a breeder who cares imo

my baby is 14 weeks and 1.9 lbs. The vet is predicting he will be around 3.5. I paid $600. It doesn't matter though, because I will love him no matter what. They are just so CUTE

The lady who i use sells hers for 500-700. I can give you her information if you want it. She will have a new litter due in April.

Why are you trying to get a refund for a "size gaurantee"? Casual research before you spent your hard earned money would have shown you that it's not possible to determine the exact size of your dog.

Personally, I find it hard to excuse a breeder that sells dogs that way, but I also find it hard to excuse a buyer that doesn't do some minimal research about what they are buying before plunking down serious cash.

Btw, $1300 is a bargain for any Standard Yorkie where I live.

Many first time yorkie owners are taken by that type of guarantee. It's unfortunate that there are people out there that claim to be able to predict the size of the dog.

when I bought my first one I assumed that the breeder knew what they were talking about.

I feel the OP deserves a refund, but I doubt that she will ever get one.

Just be happy that the dog is healthy. When you read all of the heartbreaking stories about health issues, size seem so minor.

I feel that if a breeder's expense was greater than they should know that the cost to the buyer might also be greater and should sell them at a discount to someone whom they know will have the resources to take care of it's medical needs.

they should be more focused on the dog's needs than the money.

Penny was $950. Mom is 5 1/2lbs. Dad is 4 lbs. Whatever Penny weighs is fine with me. I love her sooo much. Health guaranteed.

I got Isabella for $500, which is a fair price, but I've seen yorkies for close to $ 3,000

I am not guaranteeing size on my little female but I WISH she woudl GROW! I just know she is going to be small and would prefer upwards of 5 lbs. SHe is still only 1 lb 1 oz and is 9.5 weeks. YOu can tell by her features and buld that she will be small. COme on baby GROW!
