Default Kona and Hilo

Last year, a week after we came home from vacationing in Kona on the big island of hawaii, we got our yorkie and name her Kona because we loved the city so much. We also thought it would make a cute little girl name.

We just got our second yorkie 3 weeks ago, and the second we decided to get a little boy, we knew he would be named Hilo. Hilo is the sister city to Kona on the other side of the big island. They are the two big cities on the big island, and now they're our two yorkie babies.

We named our girl after my grandmother, Lillie, and mother, Irene, who have both passed away. Her full name is Lillie Irene Field.

My wonderful little companion is Prince Union Jack, because of my being British, and because of the origination of the Yorkshire Terrier breed. To us though he is "Jack" and it fits him so well.

Dublin because he was born in Ireland (County Limerick actually-but I was afraid the other kids would make fun of him if that was his name)

Fiona-because she is a white Eskie and Fiona means white. (We usually call her Fifi, though.)

Dempsey-after Jack Dempsey the boxer because my husband boxes for fun... (He also gets called Dingo alot because his ears never flopped down-he's a Sheltie with ears that stand up like a Yorkie-and my girlfriend said he looked like the dingo from that Meryl Streep movie. You know the one with the line "The dingo ate my baaaaby." that was imortalized on Seinfeld.)

Marley-after Bob Marley because I LOVE his music!! (He's another Sheltie and he gets called Marles a lot because he is so sweet and mellow.)

I'd be curious to see a thread with all the lovey-names / nicknames. They are usually the endearing ones!

I wanted to name my baby after his daddy,,,,,,,,, Nubian's Sir Nickolas. And call him Nick Jr. But nobody liked it. My second choice after seeing him,,, was Augustus (Gus Gus). He was a tiny little fat thing. He reminded me of the cute fat mouse on Cinderella. Well the family didn't like that either, so we all picked names and put them in a paper bag. And Augustus won!!!

Our girls are both named after Jimmy Buffet songs...I grew up listening to these songs and so it was very appropriate for our girls...

Magic - Lil Mis' Magic is a song that Jimmy Buffet wrote for his daughter and my dad used ( and still does at times) sing this to me when I was little, so I knew that my first angel would HAVE to have this name!!

Sailor - we decided to keep with the theme and one of our favorite songs by Buffet is "Sail on Sailor", and we loved the sound of the name, so it stuck!!

Rose SULLY's name...

My husband and I were married on the beach on Sullivan's Island, SC, on February 28, 2004, by the lighthouse there. (Click here to view our wedding album) We named our puppy after our most special place, Sullivan's Island (and the Sullivan's Island Lighthouse!)

His whole AKC registered name is "General Montgomery Sullivan" - My husband is a huge WWII buff and his favorite WWII historical figure, I guess you could say, is the british General Montgomery. It was a fight with my husband not to name our pup "Monty". (But, Sully it is! And we really think it suits his little face!

The local high school where we live now is Sullivan High School.......so when people ask what my dog's name is, I have to say "Sully, after the island in SC, not the high school in TN.)

However: commonly, we end up calling Sully: (affectionately) "The Sullifier", "Small Dog", "Waggie the Tail", "The Cuteness", and "Our Boy".

Well it took forever to name Oreo.. because when i had initially got him.. i didn't pick him.. he picked me! ..

i had all sorts of funky names lined up for him.. but they all did NOT fit him.. but my boyfriend ended up naming him the best name.. Oreo he named him after his first puppy that passed away who looked exactly alike

and Ginger.. well we just saw the name and it stuck .. and Cloey.. she was originally named Chloe.. I just wanted to take out the H and add a Y.. because it looks cutsie

I love everyone stories of how you pick your babies names. Gucci was named after my sister's yorkie. My sister's yorkie was the first Yorkie we have ever seen and we all fell in love with him immediately. When My sister's husband was transfer(he is in the navy) they decided to look for a new home for him. We were so mad that she didnt let me keep him, but at that time she was living in Ga and I live in NYC and she refuse to shipped him by himself. Im glad that she didnt. We decided if we ever got a Yorkie he or she will be name Gucci. I think it suits her. That is our story.

When I was planning my wedding last summer I spent a lot of time on theknot.com and there was another member who had a yorkie named Bentley in her profile and I thought he was the cutest with such a big name for such a little guy. Once I decided to get a yorkie I knew I wanted a Bentley.

I had a really hard time naming Griffin. I spent hours looking through name websites trying to find the perfect name, but couldn't decide on one. When we were at my parent's home over Christmas we were listening to satellite radio and people were calling in between songs to give a Christmas dedication. One caller was a little boy with the cutest voice who said his name was Griffin. I thought that was really cute and it fit our puppy right away (although I usually call him Gwiffin )

We wanted a strong name. It was going to be either Brutus, Cujo or Sampson but everytime I said Brutus it made me smile.
