| OMG!!! A Worm?!? Good Morning All, Or not so good for Miz Meka... I saw a worm in her stool last night, ya'll?!? I have no experience with this and would like to know whats the best way to treat this? The DH said that they have the med's available at Petsmart/Petco, but my question is which brand is best? I was also told that this is something Meka should be taking on a regular basis (like a vitamin) to prevent things like this? I had no idea, because Meka is my first dog ever... and I just want her happy & healthy Advise/Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks so much

| Call your vet and bring in a stool sample, it's likely they won't even need to see her for an appt. They'll do a little test that is quite cheap and give you the correct medication. There are so many different types of worms, you really want to be sure you giving the correct meds. |

| Ellie used panacur from her vet. We did it as a precaution... There is no reason to deworm just because. It is best to take a stool sample to your vet one or two times a year and have them check. Then deworm if you need to. Also, some heartworm meds have dewormer in them already. I like Interceptor because the same thing that kills heartworms, kills some intestinal worms. Heartgard, on the other hand, adds another ingredient to do so. This is only found in the Heartgard Plus. Revolution kills worms too but it isn't my first (or even second) choice. Hope this helps. And I agree with the others...let the vet diagnose it so you get the right meds.

| You can go to the vet and take in a stool sample. The vet should be able to look at the sample and tell you what type of eggs they see. Prob. a round or whipp worm. Anyway they will give you a pill to take and then another in a couple of weeks sometimes followed by another stool sample. Is your pup on HW med's? Most HW med will prevent intestinal parasites. Just so you know most worms are in the enviroment so it is a pretty common thing. Just another thing to try to prevent. All should be fine. |

| I didn't even know there were over the counter meds...I've always just done what everyone's suggested arleady.....off with the poopy to the vet! Foxxy's the only one whose had it(she came from a puppy mill situation)..she had coccidia worms and I was given a liquid medicine that I had to give her with a dropper....no problems with any of my girls since. Good luck with Meka!

It is just after googling all of this stuff, I have found that Revolution MAY have more side effects than the others. It is also a newer drug and I like to use older, tried and true drugs if they accomplish the same thing. I also found on one site that there is a higher death rate with Revolution than with the others. That doesn't mean it isn't good though. It has worked very well for some and with no side effects. It is something that I would rather not use. That being said, they are all insecticides and are terrible for any living thing to ingest... This website that I found that indicates Revolution has a higher death rate...I can't find anymore. I will keep googling and trying to find it again. It is very possible that the website was giving false info...I don't know. It said while Revolution has 36 deaths associated with it a year, Interceptor has 9 and Heartgard has 6.
