There is no reason to deworm just because. It is best to take a stool sample to your vet one or two times a year and have them check. Then deworm if you need to.

Also, some heartworm meds have dewormer in them already. I like Interceptor because the same thing that kills heartworms, kills some intestinal worms. Heartgard, on the other hand, adds another ingredient to do so. This is only found in the Heartgard Plus. Revolution kills worms too but it isn't my first (or even second) choice.
