Bryan got him and told him in a very mean voice no, stared him down to show dominance, and then put him in time-out. Do you think that there is something else we should have done?

But, he didn't bite BRYAN,,he bit you so you are the one he has issues with and you must deal with him..I would say don't give him those treats again, but that does not deal with the aggression issue..If what Bryan does works, then do that too as long as it is not cruel..and it doesn't sound like it is..try the water bottle but if it does not work after a certain number of sprays you have to move on to plan B. That has to be something you feel comfotable doing so if you feel comf doing the alpha roll or flip, then do it. If you are the least bit hesitant when you do it, he is gonna have the upper hand again, and will be more likely to bite you. You must time your correction with the split second you see the behavior starting..
I wish you good luck in correcting this behavior. Remember, it could be a child's or face he could bite so deal with it before it becomes a set behavior pattern..

Thanks Whispersmom and vainchick! I know I probably should have done it myself but I have a hard time punishing him (which is something I know I should get over). We are never cruel or mean; we do the dominance roll thing and the "staring contest" to show dominance, and we bark or squeal to teach them not to do certain things like bark at people. He's kinda unfazed by the water bottle (even with a little vinegar in it) so maybe I'll try his can of pennies. I will try giving him the treat again later tonight and attempt to quell some of the aggression. I'm just not sure why he is acting like this in the particular instance. I even tested the waters and gave him a different kind of treat and did the same thing and he let me take it with no problem.

Thanks for the link! I remember that happening too. How did you get Tinkerbell to do the "drop it" command. I can not get Linus to do this to save my life!

The CUJO came out in Hefner and Buddha the one and only time I ever gave them greenies. They were 5 months old and I was trying to get pictures of them so I used the greenie as an incentive but they got soo vicious with each other. It was scary. Here is Buddha in a shot I snapped on accident!

We worked on it first with her ball, you know for fetch, then moved to other things. I would tell her to drop it, take it out of her mouth and then give her a treat. She's pretty good at it now, except when she has my son's hotwheels. She is quite obsessed with those. She will let me take it from her though. We have not had a growling incident in a long time.

Oh Wow, Gucci does that sometimes with my daugther when she i eating a treat. She wont do it to me thou. I always tell her NO and sometimes I spray her, she will stop but if Evie gets closer and tries to grab her if she is eating she will do it again.Im going to try to sit my daugther with her and teach her not to growl at Evie. Gucci is 1, do u think is too late?

Kim that picture was hilarious. Great black mail picture. As for training them not to bite, you biting them helps. It is not cruel, it is the same thing that their moms would do to them. You just pinch the tip of their ear with your teeth and tell them "No Biting." I have used that technique and it worked for us. I also know that holding the skin under their chin in a firm, but not hurtful manner, is a dominance play. They dont like anyone to have control over thier face, so it gets their attention. I have the same problem with Pebbles. She will get a paper or something that she is not suppose to be eating. Then quietly she will put her paws in front of her mouth so that we don;t see that she is chewing something. Of couse immediately we can tell, when we go to take it out, she will growl, bite(breaks my skin and bleeds) and even attack. I have tried spraying her with water and that does not help! It is really aggravating me! At that point, I am so upset with her!

I know it is a common thing for puppies to chew...but Callie does not "chew" on people she bites. (Breaking skin and causing blood) I'm about to lose my babysitter for her because of this. (My mother!!!!!) I tried the water thing and she liked it!!! I've tried time outs and that isn't working either. She won't bite my kids-it's just us adults...I don't know what to do with her. She's getting a little hard to control and I am lost...please help us.
