Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | Microchipping Yoshi has a Vet's appt at 3:30 today for his rabies and to get microchip. So my concern is how is the microchip implanted? Will it hurt him?

| The microchip is implanted between the shoulder blades with a large needle. Kind of like getting a big shot. Mine squirm a bit, but that's it. Make sure you scratch his head good while it's getting done. That takes their mind off it. It literally takes seconds to have done and they don't seem to even notice it afterwards.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | The chip is very small and they have a special needle that they use to insert it. Not sure if it hurts much. Do ask the vet though what service is the provider for the chip. I know some chips are more popular in certain areas and not all vets carry a universal scanner so if they do find your baby they might not be able to scan that particular chip as each provider offers a different frequency that their chip is read on.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I think that there are three companies (might be more) that produce the chips and thus there are multiple frequencies. I remember reading up on it when I got Lulu. The article had informed me to check with the local humane society which scanner they had in helping to decide which to get.

| We had Ava chipped a few weeks ago and she was more upset about them messing with her teeth than the chip being inserted. Personally I hate needles so the size of it frigthened me but it was one yelp and she was just fine! She was only 2lbs at the time so I'm sure your baby will do just fine!
