Alright ladies - I've been talking to Sara about Emma (you can find her on puppyfind, under Michigan). What do you gals think? I mean first off, has anyone had a good experience with puppyfind? Sara seems nice, I talked to her on the phone once and we have been communicating via email. The strange thing is why she wants to get rid of him. She says it's because the dog is too small and her son is so young...my Dad jumped to the worst conclusion that the kid hurt the dog (or vice versa) and that the dog is probably locked in the laundry room now. =( I hope that isn't the case! Also about the health warranty...here is what she writes: "Sorry i missed your call last night, we were putting our son to bed. But I got your message and I'm glad that you still want Emma. If you guys are really serious about her, I will take her to the vet and get a health guarantee just so you guys don't think you're getting an unhealthy dog. Also, I will throw in her cage, clothes, bowls, food, and all the other accessories that I've bought for her. I have no use for them anymore because we're going to be pet free for a couple years. Her registration is ACA (American Canine Association) and it's $15. I don't know if I can go lower on the price, I'll have to talk to my husband about it. But I'm throwing in everything you need for her so hopefully the price wont be an issue anymore." After I talked to my husband some more, he really wanted to know exactly why they were getting rid of the dog, where it was being kept now, and where she got the dog from. I sent her an email asking those questions and this was the reply: "Yeah, she's just too small for my son. He's only 2 and I'm afraid he'll fall on her or something of that nature. She is definitely in the house. There's no way she could go outside, although she loves to, I won't let her go out when the weather is like this. She is pad trained right now, and I have a cage that I put two old towels in because if we do the actual pads she rips them up. Later on when she gets older, she could use the pads or maybe even go outside when its warmer. Have you looked at vets over in this area. Maybe you could have her fixed over here and then pick her up from there. I'm sure they're not all that expensive. I'll be taking her to the vet and I'll be getting her shots so you won't have to worry about that part. So that will be less expense for you." So....what do you gals think? Also, another question. A few YTers have mentioned to me about her ears being down. I have read that it can happen when they are teething. How big of a problem is it if they never stand up? I mean, I think she looks cute with floppy ears, but would like them to stand up. Can't I just whistle and see if the ears perk up? Then maybe they just need to be shaved or something. Anyway, looking forward to everyone's expertise! TIA! |
Can you post a pic of her? I personally think it is adorable when the ears are down, which shouldn't matter if you are not planning on showing/breeding. How old is the puppy?? I can see it would be very hard having a puppy and a two year old. Do you live nearby? I would definately go see the puppy first if possible. I had a BAD experience on puppyfind, horrible, horrible breeder, my little puppy had lots of problems and quite frankly a HEALTH CERT doesnt mean anything. My little boy had coccidia, worms, fleas, skeletal problems, open fontanel, etc. Go see the baby first. |
3 Attachment(s) Here are the pics of Emma. She is just under 3 hours away, so I would have to drive out there and if things looked good take her home then. I don't see me being able to do two 7 hour trips back to back. |
Oops forgot to say she was born on 9-12-07. |
Aw she has an adorable face. I would definitely go see her |
I just want to say good luck on your search! I have a baby girl who is a tad over 4 lbs at 10.5 months and she's very fragile. Her measurements are 10.5" chest, 10.5" length, and she fits into nearly every carrier (even small ones) with extra room :) I hope you find the PERFECT baby! :) |
Oh Emma is so cute! I was posting while the pictures were being posted! |

Very cute!! Good luck! |
I managed to find my lil yorkie about 2 hours from my house. It took a LOT LOT of searching. I talked on email to the breeder. She was knowledgeable and helpful and super nice. She sent me lots of pictures, had a great website, etc. I'm not sure how big he will get, at 8 weeks old he was 2lb9oz. So, it might be that he will end up on the "bigger" side, but he's still going to be a tiny little adorable yorkie forever. She gave a one year health guarantee, and he was only $350. I've had him for less than a week and he's already doing great with crate and potty training! Keep looking. I think one of the biggest things is finding someone that you like and feel that you can really trust. Diana (in Missouri) |

PICKLES… I bought Chelsea at Petland (Petshop) in Calgary, Alberta and she is very healthy, I haven’t had any problems as yet she’s 1yr. My vet said she’s in excellent shape. Too bad you don’t live in Alberta Canada. In Okotokos a breeder has 4 girl puppies, which I’ve seem and has more on the way. They were born in August and are beautiful and very healthy. Last year she was selling them for $800. now she wants $1200. For some reason Yorkies have gone tremendously expenses in a year. I wonder why… Keep looking you will find a perfect little girl be patient… |
Well she just emailed me back with this: "I got Emma from a lady in Battle Creek. She had 12 other dogs puppies. Emma's ears are starting to stand up. They can be taped up and they would probabyl stand up a lot faster. BUT, they will stand up on their own with age. Yorkie's ears go up and down when they're teething too." I'm a little concerned with where she came from, BUT at least Sara is being honest with me, if it were a bad situation, I would *think* she would make something much better sounding up. I also told her I am not taping the ears, if they don't stand up, whatever she is cute the way she is. I can't wait to meet her! So....nobody thinks she sounds shady then? Still a *tad* weary since I found her and Emma on puppyfind and I have read some nightmare stories here about that! |

I truly think you have to go with your gut. |
dlross....I actually called PetLand a couple of weeks back. It was.....strange. First off, they would not tell me how much the dog was. He said he would get fired on the spot if he did. I asked him why and he said because then I would make my decision based on the cost and not the dog. I said heck yes I will, if you haven't noticed, our economy is not doing so well and I am not going to come in and play with and then get attached to a $2,000 puppy! His response was that they have 3 months same as cash financing. I AM NOT FINANCING A DOG!!! ARGH!! We also visited our Petland when it first opened a couple of years ago. They carry lots of mixes and wanted $1500 for a yorkie/maltese mix. I said no thanks and again they pressured me to get their credit card and finance the dog. They wouldn't take the dog from me! We kept trying to hand it back saying no thanks, but he wouldn't take it! So we just opened the door to a "meet and greet" box and set it down and walked out. So, I have not had the best experience with Petland. Sounds like yours is about a million times nicer. |
Awww she is adorable:) my karleigh has floppy ears:) |

As far as puppyfind, you have to be careful there as well as everywhere else. You even have to be careful here on YT. Yep, that's right. not everyone that posts puppies on here for sale is honest. I sell puppies on puppyfind and I have also bought on PuppyFind. you just do your homework as if you would anywhere else. Sounds to me like Sara is being honest wwith you and being a big fan of ears that are up, I would tape them the minute I got her home. floppy ears are not for me.:) |
I understand the need to get that puppy now..I just lost my little angel and am missing him so bad. I when I am home it is so lonely and I start thinking I will go to a shelter--I almost did one day--and see what is there. But I know I won't be happy if it's not a yorkie..don't get me wrong I LOVE any dog..I would have a whole houseful if I could. If I could win the lottery I would have a doggie day care but moving on... for me to settle for something other than a yorkie I know I would still be looking for one even though I decided on another breed. And would thus end up with 2 dogs. And I can't handle more than 1 right now.. So right now I am using the logic--and you should be able to relate being in MI...it is winter and it is a BAD time to try to housebreak a puppy...the weather is nasty you can't take a puppy out in the freezing cold etc..so far it has convinced me once again today to wait. I am hoping for a puppy in spring--probably in May and if that falls thru I will be really sad.. but I have to agree with others, if you heart is set on a yorkie then you will find one. |
I think you should get her...at least you and your husband go meet them, play with the dog a little to see if you notice anything abnormal. Other than that, I don't see anything thus far that says she's shady...and it's not like you're giving her any money until you've met, correct? It is good you are being cautious and asking questions and she doesn't sound like she's offended or anything by your questions, answering them all so that's also good. Hope you get to meet her soon...I think you'll be able to get a better gut instinct when you do...but it sounds good to me!!!:D Good Luck |

The breeder I got my last girl from advertises on puppyfind, as do quite a few on YT. Since you'll be going to her home I think you're pretty safe. I love her floppy ears(Carmen Electra has a floppy eared tiny yorkie that I adore named Daisy). Also, yes, housebreaking in the winter in Michigan DOES suck but I'm doing it. You just go out, get the job done and bundle up your baby and hurry in. It sounds like the lady has been very honest with you, it's a very reasonable price and she's tiny. Exactly what you're looking for. :p |

Some of them that post on this site, also post on puppyfind, I know quite a few great breeders that advertise on there...The thing is you can go see her..I didn't get to see my last puppy in person until she was flown in..My breeder was from Michigan, but, I knew her through another website, and I had a lot of trust in her..And my puppy is fantastic and I love her to death..Littlewhip has the brother of my little girl..Anyway, go see the pup, see how it goes with you..make sure she's not afraid of you..as far as the ears, Gingers have been up since I've gotten her(even with her teething, as has my other yorkies)..If it doesn't matter to you on the ears, then don't worry about it...good luck |
