Also, due to the rigourous testing the Biewers have been accepted as a separate breed by the American Rare Breed Association (ARBA).

So the parti's and Biewers may look the same but genetically they are different.

I guess it's because with all the recent threads about breeding and how a lot of us have been arguing and disagreeing, I wouldn't blame you for acting or sounding that way. My apologies to the OP.

From my understanding, Biewers and Partis both came about the same way. With 2 regular colored Yorkies who both carried the recessive gene for it. One out of four chance to have the white come out only if both parents have the recessive gene.
It seems like breeders of Partis and Biewers will fight that they are two different breeds, but I really don't see it.

OK I might sound stupid, but if some normal yorkie,s carry this recessive gene, well does it not mean that these yorkie,s are NOT standard. And if they are classed AS standard, is this just not something normal for the yorkie. Do you no what am getting at.??????

Its still a standard yorkie but considered a color fault (for the Parti), similar to other faults like over 7lbs, roach back, etc. No fault if the gene's recessive and looks the normal color but show breeders would not want to breed dogs knowing they may produce Parti Yorkies. Other like the color and would purposely breed for it, but they cannot show. The Biewer is considered its own breed so no fault of course.

Does this at all make anyone else think the yorkies with white are like black labs vs. yellow labs or am I way off here??

Yes, well sorta. But if any yorkie can carry this gene, well I dont no why it cant be classes as a stantard. I mean the yorkie is about years and years, and if this gene still hasnt been, well, breed out, I guess it must be normal.

I think people tried to breed it out but then fairly recently others came and are trying to breed it back in. It was rare but is now becoming more common.

I don't fully understand it all but from what I do undertand, I think it should be a different class but still be standard.

I'm not familiar with the black lab vs yellow lab or the prejudice or lack of prejudice going on there but I definitely see prejudice against some of our off colored yorkies but see no prejudice against other off colored yorkies (I'm referring to black coated yorkies).

The off standard, black coated yorkies are accepted, they can still be shown (because YTCA didn't put any age restrictions on when coat colors had to turn blue by) and they are being used to breed back to blue coated yorkies to "enhance" these dogs coats?

I'm sure there are breeders (show breeders and others) who are out there with dogs who carry hidden color genes, they just don't know it yet. So it's ok and acceptable to have hidden "color" genes if you don't know, but it's not ok or acceptable to have "color" genes if you do know?

People tried breeding it out because at the time, those colorful pups were not eligible for registration with AKC. In this day of DNA and a better understanding of genetics, once AKC began allowing these "crop out" colorful pups to be registered (about 5 years ago), it opened the door for breeders who like parti, chocolate or golden colors to breed these lines and get their puppies AKC registered.

This is a breed registry, not a coat color registry. JMHO

Well it definitely gives you something to think about. . Am no expert but with the Cavalier King Charles, they all have different color coats, tricolour, block color, liver color. As far as I no these are all allowed to be registered, and why not, it is the colours that come with the breed. Why can it not be like this with all our different Yorkies.

I have a black yorkie and I showed her at one time but that was before I learned it was not correct to be in the show ring....Puppies are born black and tan and can be shown as puppies what the DQ is for is for an adult yorkie but you have to know how and when your dogs lines change colors and no it's not specified with an age but read the standard again and it will say puppies are ok to put in the show ring because of course they haven't turned blue yet. I wouldn't put an adult "black" yorkie in the ring because that's not what the standard calls for...the black gene does help for a dark steel blue which is correct but if the white gene exists (which I haven't studied so I can't say it does or doesn't) and I got a parti colored yorkie first thing I would do is spay and neuter both male and female and all puppies because it's incorrect. But in saying this I have studied both my dogs pedigrees and from all the years of their breeders experience no parti's have appeared. Great discussion going on here This is just my interpertation of the standard and my views only and it's not intended to sway anyone or offend
