| My first time here, Hi! My wife and I are thinking of buying a Yorkie pup from a friend of our daughter's and I was hoping to get some advice. The first thing is that it's only 8 weeks old and I think that's too early to be away from it's mother. Secondly, he says it has papers, but I don't know how to verify that the pup is properly registered. Last thing is he says he wants to sell the pup because it doesn't get along with his s**tzsu's. I'd love to rescue this pup from this situation, but am afraid it will be a real "problem child". Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks, Bob |

So are you saying they have an 8 week old yorkie pup that they don't want or is it a part of a litter they have? Either way, yes 8 weeks is pretty young to leave it's mama. The average age for yorkie pups to leave their mom's is 12 weeks. Not sure what type of registration you are talking about, so can't help to much there. And not getting along with his other dog? The 8 week old pup, or the mama yorkie?????? A yorkie pup (or any pup for that reason) is a bundle of energy but much to young to be labeled a problem child. Maybe the other dog just doesn't like being around active puppies. Good luck on your search and let us know when you get your Yorkie baby. We'd love to meet him/her!

| Thanks to all and reply to Luckylady Yes, it's just a pup that they don't want because it doesn't get along with their other dogs. I'm concerned that being in that environment at that young age will cause him to be hard to deal with. Do you think he will be OK if we give him lots of TLC. |

| Get the papers to make sure, it should have the name of the sire and dam on it and as long as theyre actual papers with all that on it, then they are okay... 8 Months is a little too young I'd say... At least 12 weeks is what I'd wait until... Yorkies are never "problem children" lol ... They are sweethearts, sometimes they get into things, but theyre very endearing and once you get one, youll want more... theyre addictive and very sweet.... As for the Shih Tzu... I dont know why it would be a problem to have a Yorkie & a Shih Tzu in the same place... hmmm??? Unless they just dont get along period... If the Shih Tzu is old and stuck in its ways like my Chihuahua. But, welcome to the forum and good luck on your venture and whatever you decide to do!

Got to thinking about the registration papers.....you should be able to tell by looking at them that they are "real" regsitration forms; also, maybe you could/should check with the breeder these people got him from.

| Welcome to YT! Are you saying that they have an 8 wk old puppy that they brought into their home & now want to get rid of? If this pup has already been taken from its momma, that is really sad, but if you can provide a loving forever home you would be a better choice for this little one than a home where he is unwanted. While older is better, many people have brought home 8 wk old puppies and made it work; although there may be more effort for you. As far as papers - are these AKC papers or CKC? Usually people are talking AKC. The papers will list a date the pup was born, the name of the breeder & the sire & dam

| OMG .... .... 8 weeks is so young ??? Where did they get the Puppy from ??? That would be interessting. You should ask them go give you Info about the Breeder and call them. I don't know but something does not feel right here ???? Did you see the Puppy yet ??? Once you lay eyes on those they melt your . Trust me they are worth the effort. All those kisses you get back in return are worth it.

| That's a hard call. Usually reputable breeders will not sell til 10-12 weeks. My dog was almost 8 weeks when I got her and we have problems. Of course it would be good if you could rescue this dog but just make sure you can afford thousands in vet bills because it could come to that. Generally if they don't know enough to not sell before 10-12 weeks, they don't know enough to get the proper testing done before breeding.
