I do not know Isoflurane or servoflourane Which is the safest way to put a small guy under with.. what it is that we should not allow.. that is more dangerous.. I am scared to death on this one.. Please Please if you can tell me or make suggestions... I have a 3 lb poodle and he has been put under with Isoflourine(sp?) Also 5lb yorkie that has been put under with Isoflourane. Both did fine, though it did take the 3 lber a little longer to come out of it, groggy for a bit. God Bless, sure your little one will do fine.

| JUST A THOUGHT...... Why don't you clean your baby's teeth yourself ? Yes, you feel like wretching, but you do get used to it, and it's easier on the dog than an anaesthetic....personally, all my three being 4lbs, I don't take the extra risk....I just chip off the gunge myself, and then go over them with a tiny doggy toothybrush ! ! You need to have a good steady hand and a sharpish tool, and avoid hurting the gums....it's not hard to do. The younger they are when you first do it the better, but I have always done all of mine and they have perfectly clean teeth....even the teeny teeth the girls have. Tara has been done from a puppy....she is 7.7 yrs, and has teeny teeth. Casper I bought at 19 months, has bigger teeth, was a bit awkward at first, but I persevered and is easy at now 5 years.... ......and Tammy I got at 3 years with terrible rotten filthy teeny teeth....I got her used to a clean....it took days of short spells to chip off the gunge, and I got the rotten ones pulled out when she went in for her spey, now at 4 years she has perfectly clean teeth. I pluck up the courage of feeling queezy and clean their teeth every 6 months. ....Look at their smiles below ! Debra x x x 1.Tara smiling ...with Tammy 2. Casper smiling 3. Tammy smiling 4. Tiny trio....all 4lbs ! Tammy 4, Casper 5, Tara 7.7yrs. |

| Bumping this to the top for you. On the teeth cleaning, doing yourself is great, but does not get up underneath the gums. My Vet uses the Iso for my Tinies and seems to be just fine. I don't know about the Servo, but some say it is safe as well, just not to do barbituates on a tiny Yorkie. |

| Both anasthesias are good but servo is supposed to be better than Iso.

| Make sure your vet does pre-op bloodwork to make sure it is safe to put him under. I don't recommend trying to clean the teeth yourself. I tried once with Lacy and it was impossible to get her to be still. And it can hurt them & their gums can bleed when they are awake. As long as your vet does pre-op bloodwork and is familiar with putting tinies under, he should be fine

| Thanks to everyone, getting me started on this thread, bumping this up for me.. I would do bloodwork first. I have had my youngest girl's teeth done already this winter, a vet I knew and is farther away from where we live. She had bloodwork done and did fine. My biggest problem is losing another 5 year old.. I guess I am more paranoid then anything. I lost two at 5 year old, lost my first girl, she fell off the bed in a freak accident and had a postmortem done and apparently she punctured her left lung and was gone in 10 minutes, then years later the vet killed my 5 year old with a needle he had had a reaction to the year before, same needle was fatal.. I learned a huge lesson that day.. So now with my oldest being 5 years old, I am scared to death. I think it is the 5 year old thing more then anything.. I have not booked his appointment date yet... Cleaning teeth is ok, but like humans we brush and brush our teeth and then go and get cleaning done by a professional. I myself get my teeth cleaned twice a year.. kacee was bought for a mate for my pooh then pooh died, I feel although I did not need another dog at the time, that Kacee just happened and felt it was meant to be that I would have him when pooh died. I feel Kacee came from Heaven.. I just cannot lose him. Thanks all for helping me on this one.. I appreciate it.. the replies and also bumping me to get this thread going.. pooh's mum |

| Has anyone tried LebaII? This is supposed to work great and keep the teeth clean. I haven't tried it because it would be a bit expensive with 2 pups.
