Thanks to everyone, getting me started on this thread, bumping this up for me..

I would do bloodwork first. I have had my youngest girl's teeth done already this winter, a vet I knew and is farther away from where we live. She had bloodwork done and did fine.

My biggest problem is losing another 5 year old.. I guess I am more paranoid then anything. I lost two at 5 year old, lost my first girl, she fell off the bed in a freak accident and had a postmortem done and apparently she punctured her left lung and was gone in 10 minutes, then years later the vet killed my 5 year old with a needle he had had a reaction to the year before, same needle was fatal.. I learned a huge lesson that day..
So now with my oldest being 5 years old, I am scared to death. I think it is the 5 year old thing more then anything..
I have not booked his appointment date yet...
Cleaning teeth is ok, but like humans we brush and brush our teeth and then go and get cleaning done by a professional. I myself get my teeth cleaned twice a year..
kacee was bought for a mate for my pooh then pooh died, I feel although I did not need another dog at the time, that Kacee just happened and felt it was meant to be that I would have him when pooh died. I feel Kacee came from Heaven.. I just cannot lose him.

Thanks all for helping me on this one.. I appreciate it.. the replies and also bumping me to get this thread going..
