I would get another Yorkie! My house has been peed in...in every room except for the ones the doors are kept closed to. It's hard to keep up and sometimes I find that I can't keep up. BUT....

The love I feel for and the love I get from my sweet, sweet Sassy is so much more important to me than the floors. We will be pulling out the carpet and replacing with hardwood and tile. I think this will be a help to use all. She doesn't pee on hard surfaces...just the carpet.

I knew when I got her that it would not be an easy task to potty train her. It was my decision to get her anyway. I have never regretted it for a moment. She is just like a baby. It's my job to take care of her and nuture her and train her. She has no responsibility to me. She just naturally responds to what I give to her....and let me say...the reward of that is simply beyond measure.

She has my heart and in return, I have her love and devotion. It is well worth the trouble and effort.

I thank God that she is in my life!

Patience, Patience, Patience. For one I think you are taking him out too much. You need to have a set schedule to when you would like him to go so he understands that outside if for that. Now, in the meantime you need to have potty pads and confine him to a specific area until he knows to only go on the potty pads. My Yumi is only 10 months, but she now knows to use the PP when she is home ( or visiting someone elses house), but she does her morning and evening stuff on our walks. Normally she pees one or twice on the pad during the day now, with no accidents. But that could change next week...LOL. She also travels the house to find it at night for afterhours relief.

Keep in mind that small breeds are always harder to train. You need to give it atleast a year for full potty training without pads. Good Luck!

I agree whole-heartedly...and hard surfaces will help. I have hard wood floors and my little stinky-poo Yumi would seek out my throw rugs in the beginning...I got so tired of cleaning rugs...it was crazy! But now she has it down for the most part!

12 wks and you expect him to understand what he's doing?
Please keep him in the kitchen or crate train him. Put pee pads down.
You have a way to go yet before your little one understands to go out doors.
Why would you allow him to wonder around your carpets? Put a diaper
or belly band on him if you allow him free roam. Your making yourself
crazy for something he has no control over. It's not his fault. He's an
infant! Your going to need lot's more patience if you expect him to learn.
Lot's more patience. Hang in there it will get better in about another month
if you continue to keep up the taking outdoors.
It's not easy work but it is worth it in the end.

I totally understand your frustration about the "going potty" everywhere. My little Chelsea is over a year old and she still hasn't been potty trained properly yet. It is indeed a challenge of patience.
My partner and i both have fulltime jobs also so it will be a while before Chelsea gets fully trained.
I love her to pieces though.
Her barking hasn't stopped either.
So all i can say is...get ready for the challenge years...but still shower your little one with love!!!
Good luck

I guess I have to thank God for Baxter - Not that I don't already, but he is fully potty trained - He'll be a year in a few days and he's been trained for months now. The other day - it was so nasty out- I actually wanted him to go indoors - and the poor dog just kept whining and whimpering until I took him outside. He did what he needed to and came back in - But at 12 wks - I don't believe we were even close to potty training - Actually - I just got him at 12 wks - Keep working at it - It will work. He's still a baby.

well I feel for the dog. First hes in a crate all day, then when he is out and pees he gets your aggression. Please if it bothers you that much, dont get so upset you hurt him, hes just a baby. Please have patience.

LOL That's my philosophy!! In fact, it just happened this morning with my older dog who is 100% trained. I forgot to to open his gate to get to his pad. If I'd have had a newspaper, I would have used it on me!! (Although in a conversational tone, I did tell him that he could have said something to snap me out of my stupidity.)

I agree with you...I'd give up the carpet way before I quit having yorkies. I'd have all hard floors now if I could. One day when I've got my dream home and all the yorkies I want, I'll have all hard floors

I agree with you guys too!!! Even if my house stunk to the high heavens (which it doesnt... lol) I wouldnt get rid of Roxy.
My solution...
I buy Luvs diapers...
I don't have to cut a hole, cause Roxy doesnt have a tail, but since I was thinking about getting another Yorkie, I tested it, and all you have to do is cut a hole, and stick the tail right through! (I tested it on my Chihuahua who is trained)
Roxy is trained, but sometimes she has her "accidents"... I have her paper in the other room & sometimes she wants to be with Mommy so much she doesnt get to the paper... So, in case of accidents... we have the Pampey on. Just find the right size!!!
I pay 9.99 at WalMart for a 116 pack of diapers that last forever!!!
If you have a bigger Yorkie then it might only be like 106 diapers or something like that, but thats still a lot, and worth it!!!
I love Luvs!
They saved my carpet!
