| Dukes ears Should I tape up Dukes ears? I hear so many different things on this subject, I would just like to hear some of your experiences. He is 14 weeks now and we shaved his ears last week. One side comes up sometimes but the other not at all. The vet say's that by 6 months of age they will come up, but on the other hand I see alot of pups who's ears are already up. I will love him no matter what of course but I would prefer them to stand up. Any suggestions?

| You could tape them for a few days to speed up the process, but when they don't feel well or teething, they will flop again. Your vet is right, they will stand on their own, when the cartlidge gets stronger.

| your vet is wrong if the ears arent up way before 6 months then likely they will never stand! You should be shaving them regularly and taping wouldnt hurt.

| Did you shave BOTH sides of the ears and make sure they are plucked. You need to make sure that these is no hair in or on the ear. Since he is 14 weeks, I don't think jus shaving the tip is going to work. He is teething, so try giving him either a calcium supplement or some cottage cheese. That will help also. But Kimberly is right.... everything I've read says that 12 weeks is the age that you want the ears up by.... Good luck!

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | i don't think taping would hurt. i don't kow very much about this becuase we want to keep tucker's ears down. i held them up one time to see what he looked like and they're so big he looks like gizmo. i'm worried people would call him stuff like parachute head. lol ok just kidding but they are huge so we want to keep them down. good luck i'm sure your baby would be adorable even if his ears never stood up.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | LOL...Parachute HEAD ? That's a good one - We taped Chanels ears (lasted 3 hours) and I was calling her Magic 102 cause that's my fav R&B Radio Station ......she looked like her antennas could recieve the signal with that tape on her ears pointing up....or you could call them "Satellite" I wish we had spellcheck - sorry for the edit - I cannot SPELL ! |

| We had to tape Chloe's and had a few trials at first. Try Shooter's website, I think I got the how to tape directions from that one. If not, I'm sure one of the experts here can tell you how its done, I just cannot remember. I do know we tried various methods, some that lasted about a minute before Chloe got it off. I also had a groomer suggest sprinkling dry milk, like Carnation Instant, on her food, because it is a cartilage issue, which I did. I also made sure her ears were shaved at the tips, you don't want extra hair weight. Whatever method you choose, it only takes a week of being taped to get the ears up. I agree with the poster that said if they aren't up by 6 months, they probably won't come up. It wasn't that I cared if they were floppy, I was just afraid one would be up and one down, I did not want that to happen. It's not as scary as it seems, if done right, your puppy won't be hurt or bothered by the tape. |
