CartersMom recently posted a site to link us to the best yorkie champion for 2004. I will try to find it and post it. The doggie looks lovely and from time to time she has pups available.

Show Quality? What I look for in a yorkie that I would like to show is first Additude, if they do not have outgoing attitude and are more shy or timid they are not a good show prospect. Second I look at the structure, topline, ear set, tail set, bite, gait, knees and rear angulation. If all those characteristics pass I then look at coat. I try not to put to much into the pedigree of the dog, as some dogs have pedigrees out of this world but the quality of the dog is poor at best! I also hate to mention this but just because a dog is being shown or is a Champion does not mean its conformation is good!! I have seen many yorkies in the show ring that I myself would NOT even use in my breeding program let alone show! I have also learned that the dog show world is VERY political and sometimes it is not the dog that wins, but the person holding the lead! JMO.. I was told by a yorkie show breeder one time to pick three characteristics I cannot live without in my yorkies.. She said give them three strikes, if they have three strikes keep looking as this is not the dog I want to purchase! Melanie

The best thong to do is to study the "breed standard" and then try to find a yorkie that matches the standard as closely as possible. No dog will havee ALL of the perfect breed standard qualities bu te closer you can get the better. Good luck.

understand that the correct size of a show yorkie is based on the weight. how about the height and the length of the body? what is the maximum height and etc?

General Appearance: The body is neat, compact and well proportioned. Body: Well proportioned and very compact. The back is rather short, the back line level, with height at the shoulder the same as at the rump. If you want to read an in depth study of the standard you should get The New Complete Yorkshire Terrier, Joan Gordon.

You will love the book especially if you are showing Joan Gordon is the Queen of Yorkie Showing, Breeding, You-Name-It and she and her sister did sooo much for the breed here in the States. Its so interesting to see how the kennels and lines over here have evolved and which lines they originated from! What lines are your pair from? Are you sooo excited to start showing? That will be so much fun!
