we thought lacey would be about 5 -5 1/2 lbs she is almost a year and before she got sick with mvd she was 4lbs 11 ozs she never had any health issues until november. i kinda love that she is smaller because we do travel so its much easier to take her along and carry her. the health issues are a diff story, if you have a tiny with health issues you need to be prepared to stay home with them to care for them. or only go places that will allow them. and really i think it boils down to the health and personality of the dog. you can have a healthy tiny and if its shy you cant do anything, if it has a great personality but is sick you cant do anything.

I have a 5 lber and a 2 3/4 lber. Other than size there is no difference between them. Each has his/her own personality of course. At the time I bought the little one I thought I might breed them thus the smaller male. If I hadn't thought I would breed I'd never have gotten a little guy but I just love him. He was 11 weeks and 1.8 lbs when I got him and he's 18 mo. now. He is better at potty training then my girl but that may be because he was raised as a puppy in the breeder's house with about 25 or 30 other dogs. Lucy was in a kennel till I bought her. Anyway, I would definitely go back to his breeder and buy another one because he's a wonderful little dog and truely he does think he is a big dog!

Sadie is 5 months old today. She is almost 2 1/2 lbs. My hope is she gets to at least 4 lbs. I just found out that both parents are 4 1/2 lbs.

Sadie is VERY stubborn. Over Christmas she decided she didn't like her food anymore. She went 5 days without eating her food. we were at my parents for Christmas so i thought that the travel, sickness or anything could be the cause. I hand fed her turkey until we got home but she still lost a big percentage of weight. You could see her ribs and she looked just starved to death! It was awful...i knew it was just stubbornness when she started stealing food from my parents dogs even though HER food was right there.

Anyway, just a few days of diet change threw her little body into chaos.

My little brother told Sadie to stop reading magazines cause "her did not have to starve herself to be a model" she is beautiful just they way she is!

Tinies can be at such a disadvantage. I love my Sadie and i pray she grows to the standard.

I now have 3 yorkies. My 3 previous Yorkies were 16 lbs, 7 lbs and 6 lbs. When I went to look at Cali the breeder(didn't research her) said she would be 3 lbs. I wasn't looking for a tiny but fell in love. Cali had nemerous health issues first 8 months, over 7K in vet bills mostly emergency. Cali grew to over 5 lbs and has never seemed healthy,MVD, allergies etc. When I decided to get a 2nd one I decided to go with a very reputable breeder,I went to Stardust and got Pixie at 13 months and she was a little over 3 lbs but healthy, thank God and sturdy, she is now overweight, working on losing some, at about 4 lbs, then the Breeder called me about Dixie and she is 6 months and 2 .2 lbs. Healthy, knock on wood but I am a nervous wreck when her and Pixie play and so afraid she is going to get hurt just from playing. I am hopeful that she will still do some nice growth spurts and get to 4 lbs. In my opinion, you can get a sick dog no matter what but your odds are so much better of a healthy dog with a reputable breeder who does not breed for tinies but gets them once in awhile.

I can only speak from personal experience but my 2 3/4 lb Yorkie male has no problem with weather. It was 8 degrees the other day and he did just fine. I take him out 5 or 6 times a day.

The standard is up to 7 lbs. and too much turkey isn't good for them either...hopefully it was white meat, as dark meat is too rich and can cause diarrhea..My littlest is also 5 mos. she was 5 mos on Dec 31st and she weighs 3 1/2 lbs. I am also hoping she gets to at least 5 or 5 1/2 lbs. I really don't like her being this small at all..

My little male was about 2lb. 1oz when neutered and he had to have all his baby teeth removed. My 5lb girl was spayed at the same time and had 2 baby teeth removed. Both dogs did just fine. Also, I never let my dogs jump off of anything till after they turned a year old. Both dogs jump off my lazy boy regularly and have no problems.

Not only do I have her health issues to worry about, but her sheer size is a huge worry for me. Ever stumbled walking across a room or lean up in bed on an elbow? Imagine if Lily were underneath that elbow or that foot. Ever opened up the freezer or fridge and have something fall out? If it fell on top of her, it would kill her or break several bones at least.

She is a rescue and was bred by a breeder who specialized in so called "teacups". Their goal was to breed a yorkie as small as possible. Well guess what? They succeeded and Lily is the result. That is her in my avatar. Is she adorable? Yes, but look at the price she is paying. That's pretty much all I have to say on the issue.

Lucy is 3/5 lbs. of healthy energy thank goodness...I had no desire for a tiny/teacup and whatever else they call them, I only wanted a healthy puppy I could travel with and so far I have been blessed with an excellent breeder and happy little one. She does come with more responsibility - she can't jump and make the couch, etc. though she thinks she can so I have to be diligent in always picking her up if she wants up since she thinks she is a Giraffe...She also tends to get cold easily so I am much more on guard and aware of her than normal. I love her with all my heart and wouldn't change a hair on her head. That said - I certainly wouldn't mind a growth spurt

Very well put! It's these poor babies that have to suffer because of ignorant people breeding to get these tinies, and then putting high price tags on them..

You know exactly what its really like for the dog, they are the ones that are paying the real price.
The lucky ones are doing great now, I hope they always remain healthy but mny people never really understand what we have experienced first hand until they need that medical attention to save their life, then OH NO what to do, because being put under will likely kill them. It is very sad to have one so tiny, and for people to do the breedings to get this size I don't understand

I have five furbabies, weights range from 3.9lbs to 6.2 lbs. All of my babies are healthy and energetic.

Might, who is the 3.9 pounder, is the most fiesty one of the bunch, he runs and jumps all the time, I haven't had any health problems with him and he just turned 6 this past October.

Miko and Prissie are 4.5 lbs, and were my breeding babies, they had 2 successful litters, she miscarried her last litter in October. She came through it fine and that was the end of my breeding career, she is set to be spayed in the next couple of weeks. All her puppies with the exception of one, have an adult weight of 3.5 lbs. and are all healthy. I keep in touch with all of them, YTer Layla's Mom, is mommy to one of my grandbabies. Max, Layla's littermate, stayed with me, is the 6.2 pounder, not sure how he got to be so big, but it happens and he is a joy to have.

Kylie is my other 6 pounder, however when you look at her you wouldn't think she weighs that much, she is as compact as Might, 3.9 lbs, but she is just a little thicker.
