| Well, Bad News.... Or maybe it's good news? I don't know. So as I've posted before, my pup Rocko was born on December 2nd, and I've been doing tons of reading and research on this site. I've slowly begun to feel though, as I've been educating myself, that maybe this puppy isn't for me. For one, the breeder. I met the breeder through a friend at work whom told me about the puppies in the beginning, knowing that I was interested in a Yorkie as a pet. At first, everything was fine, I saw the parents, and they're adorable little things. The girl who owns the dogs however, I got the inkling had no idea about breeding which set alarms off in my head. The problem started when the breeder told me the date she wanted the puppy to go home with me. January 14th. Six weeks old. When I told her I'd rather wait until the puppy was at least eight weeks old, as I'd be more comfortable taking the baby from the mother, the girl seemed a little put off by that. THEN, she told me she wasn't even getting the puppies vaccinated before they went home with their new owners! Now I've witnessed Parvo first hand, in an Akita puppy that my mother adopted from a rescue organization some years ago, and it is HEART WRENCHING, not to mention financially breaking to fight for a puppy who is succumbing to Parvo. Buddy (the Akita) pulled through, thankfully, but taking a risk with a tiny six week old baby, just driving it immediatly to the vet's for the vaccines he should have had at three weeks, just doesn't sit right with me. So, I think I've decided against taking this particular puppy, which just breaks my heart because I was so looking forward to having my little boy home with me soon. I just wanted some opinions, do you all who are experienced breeders, or just experienced with owning this breed, feel I made the right decision? I'm just so disappointed now, and can't understand why a breeder wouldn't think that getting VACCINES and leaving a baby with his mother until he's ready is important?! |

| I am sorry that you are upset. It seems like the breeder just wants rid of the puppy and doesn't want to spend any extra money to get vaccines. I am not sure what to tell you. You might want to post this in the breeders section too. Good luck. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I think you made the right decision. I have had Yorkies since 1970 and believe me by not going with a reputable breeder you increase your chances of getting an unhealthy puppy. My one, Cali who I bought from a breeder I knew nothing about cost me over 7,000 in medical bills the first year. When I decided to get another one I went to a very well known breeder and got a grat 13 month old and 2 weeks ago I got a 6 month old from her. There are a lot of great breeders her on YT you may want to check into. I would trust your gut feeling and pass on the puppy. It may be healthy but it is a chance you take. Your baby is out there somewhere!!

| You made the right decision about this particular yorkie. Any reputable breeder would never let the furbabies away from their mommy so soon. The not getting the shots before they leave the breeder is totally bad. Its better to wait and research for a healthy baby from a reputable breeder. You can check the breeders here on yt. There are quite alot and I heard great things about the furbabies.

| Good for you! It's so hard to make the right decision once we've set our hearts on getting our yorkie. That took courage and foresight. More prospective pet owners need to be like you!!!!! I hope that you find your baby soon!

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | You made an EXCELLENT decision. Six week old puppies are not old enough to be going with new owners. This sounds like a bad situation that you avoided. Keep looking--you'll find your puppy. |

| Red Flag I wonder if this breeder has wormed this puppy regularly or even taken the proper care of this little guy. I would not buy or sell a pup before they were 12 weeks old. Too many red flags for me. I have a litter right now who are 6 weeks old and their mom is still feeding and hasnt tried to stop nursing yet. I like to give my first shots while they are on their mom anyway. Good Luck, your baby is out there, just ask future breeders questions on how they care for their babies before you buy from them. |

| Thanks very much, all of you As far as the worming goes, I asked her about it, and she didn't even do THAT. So yeah, I basically told her thank you anyways, but I'd be looking elsewhere for a furbaby. I've been keeping an eye on the breeder forums in the meantime, so when I find a baby for myself, I'll definitely keep everyone posted! Thanks again everyone. |

| I know it is hard, but I don't think you will regret the decision. There are far too many red flags and I commend you for recognizing them and being strong enough to step back and pass on the offer. And yes, 6 wks is WAY to early for a pup to leave home. So is 8 weeks for that matter. I would question and doubt ANY breeder that would be willing to let them go that early. |

| I'm so sorry that you're disappointed and heart-broken. That has to be one of the hardest decisions. But it just means that you are working very hard at being a responsible yorkie owner. And some lucky puppy will benefit from that. Kudos to you.
