| Another new Yorkie owner Hi everyone, I'm new here. I just got a 15 wk yorkie named Lola yesterday. She's doing great with housebreaking and with her crate but the biting is out of control when she is in her really rambunctious phase. My 13 yr old daughter freaks out a bit over it which of course makes it worse. I'm doing all the things that are recommended, I just would love some words of encouragement that things will get better. I love that you guys are here. (I had a yorkie many years ago but it's been awhile and feel like a first time mom) |

| LOL, I'm sure you'll get wonderful advice here...but since you asked for encouragement...Hang in there! Puppies bite until they learn otherwise...keep doing what you're doing (providing chew toys, playtime, etc.). This too will pass. Congrats on your furball!

| Welcome to YT! When Lacy was a puppy, if she started chewing on me, I stuck a toy in her mouth. I always gave her stuff to chew on too. She was a very hyper puppy but started to calm down around 7 months. She's pretty layed back most of the time now, but she'll get the zoomies and run around and play hard too.

| Try putting "bitter apple" on your hands. When she chews on them, she'll taste it and hopefully back off with the biting. Try distracting her with a chew toy. Buy her lots and lots of teething toys. | Parker still nips here and there. But my one hero is Bully Sticks, he used to bite and chew at everything but now he much rather have a bully stick instead. I would just keep redirecting the behavior and not let him bit you or your daughter. Good luck and congrats on the new baby!! |

| I have 1 who was a biter..when I would come home, she would be so excited as soon as I put my hands down to pet or pick her up, she'd get to nibbling....what I did was I would still get her just as excited when I walked in, go to put my hands down and as soon as I saw her trying to bite/nip my hands, I immediately put them behind my back and said "no" looking her in the eye, then bring the hands back around trying to pet or pick her up again....I would do that a few times..after about a week (or 2 ) of that, she finally got the picture. Another thing I would do is instead of putting my hands down to greet her, I would kneel down and bring my face close to hers(hands out of reach/sight).....and now, she licks instead of bites.. So it just takes patience and consistency and she'll get the hang of it. As you said, they are very excited & playful at that age... Good Luck...look forward to hearing about and seeing Lola!

| Wanted to welcome you & Lola to YT. You've gotten lots of great advice. All I would add is that consistency is important - just like when raising a skin kid - that way they know what you expect & don't get confused by different rules. You will be a great yorkie mom!!

| Things will get better....puppies will be puppies and 13 yr olds will be 13 yr olds and get over excited easily. Welcome to YT. Hang in there, be patient and consistant and stick and you will all make it through the hectic stage. |

| I'm on the same boat so let's try to stay positive and consistent together. Duke is 11 weeks old and leaves marks when he bites me too. I've gotten really frustrated at times but found the advice on YT helps since we all just need a bit encouragement sometimes. |
