| Don't know what to do about Benji! So I posted a couple of weeks ago about Benji randomly peeing every once in a while. He also wakes me up every night to go potty. We thought he might have had an infection or something so I decided to take him to the vet. He had a full examine and a urinalisis and they found nothing. The vet things he has a behavior problem. Well last night he peed in our bed on me!!! I don't know what to do with him. Should I start putting him in a crate at night? Should I make him wear a belly band to bed? Should I not let him have anything to drink after a certain time? I love sleeping with my baby boy. He snuggles up to me all night. I think I would have a harder time with him sleeping somewhere else than he would. My fiance is getting really mad about this and I don't know what else to do. I try to give him as much attention as possible. It's not like something has totally changed and thrown him for a loop. If anybody has any input, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

| Millie is over 2 years old and she still wakes up 1 x a night to go potty. But that's ok with me, because I get up to go potty too . And I would rather her wake me up so I can take her out than to go somewhere in the house (although I really don't think she would). I don't expect that this will ever change, and I am ok with that. However, having said that, when Millie was a puppy and until she was 100% reliably housebroken and even longer, we kept her in a crate at night. We did limit her water intake after 7pm, but we don't do that anymore. Millie had to "earn" the right to sleep with us, and she was over 1 1/2 yo before that happened. Sleeping with you is a privilege and really should not be offered to Benji until after a few behavioral milestones have been met. I am not really sure, but I think peeing on you is more of an aggressive behavior than really about peeing. Dogs pee/"mark" for many reasons, having nothing to do with relieving themselves. Benji may not be mature enough yet to handle the privilege of sharing the same sleeping area as his masters.

Donating YT 11K Club Member | I'm sorry you're having problems with him. What i did with Teddy when he used to pee on my bed was take him off and let him sleep in his bed, he would beg and whine to sleep with me and i would ignore him. This was when he was too little to jump on it One time i caught him in the act so i yelled NO and made him get off right way and didn't let him get back on for a while. I guess that worked cause now he doesn't do it anymore, he jumps off and on my bed as he pleases and never pees on it at all. I hope Benji will outgrow it

| Well... I think its all about the training. I think its definately behavioral problems if he peed ON YOU... After that, I would have told him NO...and directed him to where he should use it... and also, not allow him back on the bed again until he's acted better. Also, something Im learning...I train Meka to know the difference between MY BED and HER BED and she cant just jump on my bed unless asked. If we give them free rain of everything... I think thats where the behavioral prob's begin, ya know.

| Thank you so very much for everyone's input. I am going to make him sleep in his own bed tonight and see how that goes. I would really like to get him to a trainer so hopefully I will be able to afford it after christmas because whatever I am doing is not working. Benji does have free rain of everything so I will start cutting back on things now. I always thought that would make them a better dog. Opps!!! Thanks again!

| It's so easy to spoil these guy's as most of you already know. IMO I feel that Benji is showing you he is ALPA peeing on you. You have to get him out of your bed and into his own. Show him your the boss and it's your bed and he no longer is allowed there. And stand by that rule. Buddy became dominent in MY bed twice with me. Both times I banned him for a time. The second time I refused to allow him back in bed with me. What he does now is to jump up in bed when I'm asleep and I wake up with him curled up next to me. That's ok with me because he thinks he's getting away with something and knows the bed belongs to me. This breed is so darn smart it's scary. |

| Did he just start doing this? Has the vet xrayed him for bladder crystal/stones? My little male started doing this same thing, I took him to the vet three times before I asked them to do xrays, xrays showed he had Crystals/ stones, and peeing every where was his way of showing me that some thing was wrong. I wish I would of know the first time I took him to the vet because I would of had him xray the first appt. instead of him suffering. and then he had surgery to remove them. it got so bad that he couldnt pee and we could of lost him. please dont wait and have him xrayed. If you feel somethings not right make your vet do the xrays. |

| I would advise you that Benji needs to sleep in his own bed (crate) and not on your bed. When I brought my puppy home I began his routine at night, as the breeder recommended. Never having a YT before I was nervous that I would not know what to do! I could not believe that my husband and I were acting like we did not know how to go about training our new pup, especially since we had dogs for over thirty years! But, we were right in heeding advice. The Yorkie is a smart little guy. Training is very important for every dog even if they are so cute and little. Remi sleeps in his crate next to the bed with a towel over it (spaces left for air of course). He is happy and content and sleeps the night. In fact, I can stay up and watch TV or read in bed, or not be in bed the same time that he is retired for the night. I believe that dominance may be an issue too and through obedience training classes I am hoping that my little Remi will learn who is boss ( I hope)! Lots of good luck and have a very Merry Christmas! |
