| Dennis & Lilly (Lilly is sickl) I am devastated today, Lilly would not eat much over the weekend this is the first time I have experienced this type of thing being a new dad, by the time Sunday evening came around I was almost frantic, she laid down in her basket and was very non responsive. I made several calls to our local emergency Vet Service and finally at 21.00 the lady came out to me, she was excellent and very up front with me, it turns out that Lilly has picked up a small parasite that has caused her some serious internal trouble. This morning she has visited the Hospital, after a long examination it was decided to keep her in to monitor her progress today and possibly Tuesday, Dennis seems to be inconsolable I just cannot bear to think that we might be looking at a potentially life threatening event, why do we have parasites anyway. I am at work now for what its worth 14.45 I am so worried. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | That's pretty scary - at least they know what it is and are treating her !! Poor babies - she should be ok after the medication works ! I don't understand parasites either - what purpose do they EVER serve ? I know many things are on our planet for a reason - but they boggle my mind - they just don't seem to have ANY purpose except wreaking havoc on animals... I really hope she gets better fast and Dennis cheers up ! |

| Do you know what type a parasite it is? Have they started her on some antibiotics? I'm sure she is in the best hands right now. I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

| Deja vu all over again... Quote:
MANY years ago when I was a young girl we had a dog that got sick from parasites. (The one thing I DO remember is the vet saying that the stool sample had "more parasites than could be found in a monkey's sh*t" - the things you remember!) Anywho... We had taken him to the beach on vacation with us, and the vet said that it was probably something that he ate while playing at the beach. He was young and at the stage where everything went into the mouth, so no telling what it was! Probably nothing since the beach trip was recent, but I'll ask my mom if she remembers more details (other than the stool sample quote) and let you know. Bottom line, he got better and lived a long and healthy life, and I'm sure your baby will too!

| Poor Lily, I hope she is back to her normal self in record time. Usually those parasites can be taken care of pretty fast with meds. When Rio was a pup he drank out of a creek and picked up giardia, it is a parasite too. He was seemingly deathly ill and after starting his medication was back to normal in a day or two.Hopefully it will be the same for Lily. Keep us posted on her recovery, Dawn |
