regular vaccuming/cleaning! i will also put some of the carpet powder down before i vaccuum sometimes-i usually use the ones that have baking soda or the ones for pets..they smell real good(well some of them

)

we have an air purifier too!!(love that thing!!) we use the airwick plug-ins..and also try and keep the windows open(for fresh air)when we can. Candles that smell real yummy-are good when people are coming over(i did that before i had Avie though too!

) and like Brooke said-we too use a steam cleaner on the carpets(only every few months though). Avery is potty trained-but sometimes she will get a little off the pad..so we make sure to clean that up asap and spray it.

everyones tips seem to be about the same.. lots of cleaning and yummy smelling things!! hehe.

Be aware that some air freshners can cause itching in a dog that has allergy problems. The dogs are a lot closer to plug-in air freshners than people and if the dog tends to be allergic, one of these freshners can set off a reaction. I prefer candles to air freshners. One of my Bichons is prone to itchies and hot spots and I wouldn't dare have any kind of air freshner in my house!

Thanks, I've been using them for quite sometime. When Rockie came I was really unsure about still using them. We've had him since July 1st, 2007; thank goodness no allergies yet

In a pinch if you have an apple in the house, you can cut it up and put a little cinnamon on it and put it in the oven on low. Someone mentioned Bath & Body Works plug ins.....I love them and I think they have a sale in January.

I just wanted to throw out some thank yous for ideas!

1) Arm and Hammer Pet Deodorizer. I didn't think this product would make a big difference, but it was $1.99 in the Target pet section for a big carton, so I got it. Wow. I sprinkled it all over my wall-to-wall carpeting, and even before the 15 minute rest period before vaccuming was up, the entire apartment smelled so fresh and clean. Like the carpets had just had a professional shampoo. It also seems to have made the actual vaccuming much more effective. Like deep-down dirt was pulled to the surface. Bonus points for the fact that the $1.99 carton will easily last 12-15 vaccum cleanings. Definitely a new regular in my cleaning schedule.

2) I decided to set a saucepan with simmering water on the stove as per suggestions here. I threw in some vanilla extract, cinnamon, lemon slices, and a kiwi that was starting to be overripe. My entire home smells like a freshly baked pie! I was cooking all afternoon making a special meal for my boyfriend for tonight, yet my house doesn't have any cooking smell. Just fresh, spicy, citrusy warmness all over the place.

I use the warming plates that melt the scented wax. Hubby keeps clean scented covers on all the vents, so that when the heat or just the fan is on to circulate, it makes the whole house smell nice. Of course I vacuum once a week and mop kitchen area with a little bleach water once a week as well. I'm always opening windows all year long too. If I had a fur kid that liked peeing on the drapes, I'd get rid of those and just go to the wood-look luver blinds.

I clean house regularly like everyone else. Mop,dust with a scented polish,use yankee candles just because their my favorite. Then one thing I do that I haven't seen anyone else do is I put Downy fabric softener on a wet wash cloth and wipe all my furniture down with it. It makes my house smell like it's been washed and dryed like our clothes. You'd be suprised how long the smell last,I love it. So even if I'm not burning candles my house always smell clean.

You can get the ciniman sticks at Walmart in the craft isle. Especially this time of year. If you go to the day after Christmas sale, they will have the containers on clearance. I think I paid a quarter a piece. I bought enough that I have 2 left and can hit the sale this year!

Thanks for the tips on vanilla and citris. Tried it today and it smells wonderful in here!!

Just thought that I would add my favorite holiday smell good is the scented pinecones. I set them beside holiday decor and on shelves and they keep the whole house smelling great. I also like to mop my wood floors with murphy's oil soap.

Well... I do everything everyone else said... and I put dirty piddle pads in giant 2 1/2 gal zip lock bags so they don't stink up outside trash can either. I just ran into these new glad candles that turn to oil and burn off... don't use any of the others... tried them... don't work... but the glad... the apple cin.... glistening snow... CLEAN LINEN... and one more in light grn pck.... fresh something ... it's hard to find... they are awesome!!! People come in and say WOW we can't smell your dogs anymore... which goes to show nothing was really working in the past. We get used to the smell and don't even know it's there... you have to have a fresh nose (and I have a VERY sensitive nose).

Hi everyone. Have any of you tried using the Lampe Bergers with their oils. Or the La Tee Da Lampes and oils, or even Claire Burke's lamps and oils, as well as Tyler Scents who make the Tyler Candles. I have several lamps thru out the house. It's cheaper than candles and also flameless. There are oddles and oddles of scents. Plus they have alcohol in their oils which acts as a disenfectant.(not sure of spelling). They are all great. Their scent also linger for days.
