| yorkie abuse? i've always believed that our pixie was abused before we got her, because she's always been really submissive around my husband. she even pees many times she's so fearful. it seems to have gotten worse with time, but she's never really "taken" to him at all. i can see he tries sometimes (not always), but even a year later she's very leery of him. what are some telltale signs of abuse? have any of you dealt with it or seen it and how they act? |

| I had an adopted Golden/Lab mix one time that was extremely hand shy. She would cower down, lay to the floor or flinch if you raised your'e hand around her. She never did overcome this and it was just one of several issues she came to us with. She was just 120 lbs. of mental mess Unfortunately the remnants of abuse were with her throughout her whole time with us.

| I have recieved dogs in rescue like that & we have been able to always change them. Of coarse I tell my husband never to yell, even just yelling for me in the other room & I would hold the dog for security as he petted it several times then let it down & give her/him a treat, eventually they would take a treat from my husband, and they would have time alone, next thing they are sitting on his lap. But one yell for your favorite team, one quick move can set you back. Its really sad. If he is WILLING to earn her trust he can Last edited by rachelsyorkie; 11-13-2007 at 02:58 PM. |

| I have a cat that's very shy of men. She's never gotten over it and she's 16 years old. We think when we moved from Germany, the men on the plane tortured. When my grandparents went and picked her they said "Oh YOU want that crying cat!" with an attitude and practically shoved her carrier into their arms. When my grandfather got her out the carrier and carried her downstairs she FREAKED out and clawed him from one end of his arm to the other and he had to be taken to the ER. She hates him to this day and won't come near him. She also hates my husband with a passion and hisses at him even if he is across the room. She is leary of my cousin and was best around my father. Unfortunately, it does sound like she was abused and I wish you all the best. I would try to keep as calm around her as possible and have your husband spend some one on one time with her like offering her treats. Maybe even let him be her primary caregiver for awhile? If he's the one taking her out to potty, giving her food, playing with her, taking her for walks, giving her treats, etc. she'll start to see that he's not so bad after all. Just tell him to take it easy with her and be understanding. She'll come around in time :-) Good luck!

Goodness, how long did it take for him to warm up? This scooby is so from day one, he has always been fearful of hands, apparently the woman we bought him from used to beat him with her hands. He is very sensitive and if we yell out to each other or I yell at Bandit to be quiet scooby cowers and becomes very submissive and shake, when it had nothign to do with him at all. he often trembles something awful | |
