| Boy Or Girl? Hi there As many of y'all know I plan on purchasing a yorkie baby in the near future and I've always wanted a girl so I can dress her up in pretty little bows and sweaters but now I'm not sure. I know it's hard to generalize since it depends on the dogs personality, but is there any real difference between male and female yorkies? My parents have a male mini schnauzer at home who LOVES the women of the house (my mom and I) and is so cuddly towards us compared to my dad and my brothers. He seems more attached to us and wants to be around us 24/7 (sometimes he sits in the bathroom while I'm getting ready ... it's SO CUTE!) Every time my little brother and I play fight, he's always on my side "protecting" me and barking at him. I've heard boy prefer girls and girls prefer boys and I have seen this in our dog. What do y'all think? Thanks

| I think boys are more affectionate, especially towards the women in the house. My male yorkies prefers me to my husband, and his female Chihuahua prefers him. Generally males are more affectionate than the females, they are always so busy trying to be queen bee, at least that is the way it seems to be in my house.

| I think the best thing you can always do, is let the puppy pick you out...My female shih tzu loves me and hubby, my female(oldest yorkie) is a mamas girl, the new female is a mama or daddys girl, and the little boy is the most affectionate, and he loves hubby and me...I was supposed to get a boy this time, but, hubby prefers little girls over little boys.. |

| When we went to the breede to pick out a puppy, there was this one yorkie just all over my daughter. We were there for over two and half hours. My daughter eventually pick the boy puppy Rockie. It depends on the personality of the puppy. I think that is determined as the puppy gets older |

| Personally, I am getting a male yorkie because I heard they are more affectionate to the females as well. I'm getting him next month! Yayee! Other than that, I wouldn't mind getting a female. I mean, when it comes down to it, any Yorkie will steal my heart! =) |

| I definitely want a male whenever I get another puppy in the future. Lilly really takes to her dad a lot more than me.

| I have always had male dogs because I heard the same thing..Males are more affectionate. One of my girlfriends begged me to get a girl when I was looking. When I found Lucy I had my choice of five puppies 4 male, one female. I was all ready to go with one of her brothers but then she came up to me and licked my hand and that was that! I have never regretted it. She is more affectionate than any of my males ever were (that's saying something) and she is a real Mommy's Girl. Lucy adores her Daddy but it's Mommy she hangs on to... Best of luck in your decision. There is no right or wrong

| My male is a MOMMA'S BOY to the extreme. If I make a sudden stop, his little face hits the back of my ankle. Seriously. If I go to pee and I take too long, he'll jump in my lap. I love it, though. Now I had a female pound puppy until recently, and she was the same way. I think it depends more on who spends the most time with them. I'm getting a little girl in January, and I sorta hope she bonds with my hubby. I think he's adorable going around with a little fur butt in his arms.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Personally, I don't think affection is gender-based - I think it just depends on the dog. When I first started looking, I totally wanted a girl - but they were impossible to find - so I got my Wylie. When I was ready for a 2nd, I didn't even really think about it - there was a boy available and I said YEP, even though Wylie is a Daddy's boy. Marcel turned out to be a Momma's boy. I just LOVE having boys, I don't know why - they're just my little "dudes, my little "men", ya know?

| When I got my first yorkie I wanted a girl, like you, so I could dress her up. Well no matter how hard I tried, she has always preferred my husband and she hates clothes. She is most definitely not a lap dog, she is extremely independent. We got my daughter a little boy and he loves everyone but he worships her and will always prefer her over anyone else. Our last addition was my little boy Sugar who is completely in love with me and would be thrilled if I just held him 24 hours a day. A silly game I play is I sit on the floor and talk ooey gooey baby talk to the dogs. The boys go nuts climbing all over me and giving me kisses while Gracie tries to get as far as she can from me. Obviously I prefer the little boys. Ironically, the boys don't mind clothes at all although I have to admit, girl clothes are more fun. Editing to add- I know all dogs have their own personality and you can't go 100% by sex but my mom has a boy and a girl and her boy is the sweetie pie and the little girl is the very independent one. She also had another female who has passed away and her personality was identical to my Gracie so I do think boys have a tendency to be the little lovers.

| I say boys are more affectionate. My boy is my lap dog. He's my shadow. My girls are also loving, but more independent. Depends if you are planning on fixing them. Unfixed boys will mark and lift. While girls will go into heat. Honestly, if you want a lap dog, I'd say go with the boys. Plus they are usually a little cheaper than the girls Actually my boy and girls follow me, but my boy hangs around my bf a lot instead of the girls.
