| I'm worried about my puppy I didn't think this qualified as an emergency and I don't know that he's sick so I didn't post in the Sick/Injured forum. Max is 11 1/2 weeks old and up 'till now been a very active pup. He gets three meals a day and lots of exercise (I have a 2 year old son that he runs around like crazy with). This morning started out as normal but quickly deviated from the norm. Max didn't want anything to do with breakfast, just laid down next to it. I figured he just wasn't hungry yet so I let him lay on the couch with me while I did some stuff on the computer. I've offered him his food many times now and he hasn't touched it. (hasn't touched his water either, though he isn't a big drinker in the mornings) I gave him a treat when he went in his crate this morning and he took it but I later saw he didn't eat it. He's gone tee-tee several times and is alert, but he's definitely not his normal self. All he wants to do is lay in my lap. He went to the vet last Friday for his second set of puppy shots and never acted like those bothered him. If he was going to have side effects from the vaccines he'd of shown signs by now, wouldn't he? He hasn't been anywhere else since I've had him or around any other dogs. What should I be on the look out for and how long should I monitor the situation before calling my vet? |

| Because he is so young, I would call the vet. If it was an adult, I would let it go for 24 hours and then call a vet. Puppies can take a turn for the worst too fast, so he might need to be seen.

| I would call the vet and ask if he could be having a reaction to the shots after almost a week. Did he get a lepto vaccine? Some times they have a reaction to that, but usually faster than this. he may be just having an off day, or cutting teeth. Does he seem hot? Or is he acting like he hurts somewhere? If not, he probably is fine. Just don't let him go too long with out eating, he may get shakey.

| He doesn't seem any warmer than usual and I can rub all over his body without any signs of pain from him. He's just very lethargic and not a bit interested in eating. I'll give my vet a call and see what they say. |

| I hope he is okay...sometimes it is just a mood they go through. I would not be too worried unless it continues throughout the day.

| I would just call the vet and more than likely they will want you to bring him in. Are you giving him nutri cal since hes not eating? He could possibly be sick from one of the shots he got last week. |

| I am wondering how your puppy is doing? I just wanted to add my encouragement to please contact your vet if your puppy is lethargic and not eating. I think those are both red flags. Both my dogs have been seriously ill at one time, those were big symptoms and absolutely required urgent vet care. Hope your baby is well!

| Thanks everyone for your well wishes and advice. I figured the vet would want to see him yesterday so I was waiting for my 8 month old to wake up from her nap and then I was going to call. Before I could do that though, Max decided to eat and shortly after pepped up a lot. He had a normal poop and ran around all afternoon with my son. I obviously decided not to call the vet as he was acting normal again. Everything was fine until 7:00. Just before my husband walked in the door Max threw up (mostly clear with some bits of food) and started acting lethargic again. My vet was closed and we live way out in the country. I have no clue where the nearest emergency vet is but "town" is over 40 miles away so that would be the closest it could be. He didn't throw up again and was still drinking so I watched him through the night and he acted fairly normal. Ate some more and is quite active this morning. When my vet opens I'll call and see what he says, even if Max is acting fine at the moment. Thanks again! |

| That's how my maltese I had a few years back, when she had hypoglycemia. I would put a little bit of honey or karo syrup on your finger and get that down him, but, I would still get ahold of the vet and get him checked out.. |

| Definitely get him to the vet today even if he seems to be acting normal again. And keep some nutrical on hand for when he's not eating. |
