| You live and you learn When Mika went missing the other day, I made a frantic call to the all night animal clinic to find out how you activate the tracking system that goes with her chip. I knew the chip had a number, and I just thought someone could key it into a computer and some satellite out there would track her and let us know where she went. Kind of like ON STAR for the cars (are you laughing hysterically yet???). No mam, the only way the chip works is if someone finds her. We can then scan her to find out that she belongs to you and return her. Is this person insane??? Who would return a gorgeous dog like Mika.... That does it, she is gone forever. Chip no help mon...... LOL you live and you learn. |

| That's one reason I haven't chipped mine. Who's gonna return a beautiful yorkie? Oh, I guess I shouldn't say that, there are good people in the world, but there are some guiltless freaks too! I'm confused, have you found your baby? I certainly hope so!

| My son found a 2 pound Yorkie girl one Thanksgiving day three years ago. She had a tag with phone number, and my son said the # is in the Bay Area of SF. I left a message that I had her. So you see, some people WILL return the dog. Also there have been an awful lot of dogs returned to owners even from other states simply because of a microchip. If someone were to steal your dog, sooner or later they will end up in a Vet. office and hopefully be scanned. This is where we do need to get the word out to ALL Vets. and animal hospitals, that if they get a new patient in, to PLEASE scan and find out if the dog is with the right owner. |

| Ok, I do remember that story now! Mika's the one caught by the fence, right? and the fire department rescue unit? So happy all ended well!

| Thats good to know... I must say that I've been thinking about it. But, when you put it like that - its seems almost impossible that someone would take a Yorkie to the vet...to get it scanned...in hopes of finding its owner.... Highly unlikely unless my pup was lucky enough to be found by a YT'er Thats it - my Meka aint never leaving my side

| I am a little embarrassed because that's what I thought. Well now they have made tracking systems that work with satellites so they CAN tell you where your dog actually is. They dont make for toy breeds yet but they do for large and med. breeds. |

| hopefully if they take her to a vet of some sort and explain they found her, the vet would scan her. I do have a very rich friend who pays a yearly fee to have an active gps chip on her dogs collar.

| i really really think that all vets should have to scan every dog everytime a dog walks into that door. people could lie and just say this is their new dog and the vets never ck for a chip. i would not be offended to know that my vet scaned all my dogs everytime we went for a ck up. at least that way they would know if someone has stolen or baught a stolen dog.
