| Pees on pad but poops under bed!! Hey everyone on YT!!! I found your site after my bf gave me my very first dog and thank god it was Yorkie!! I have been on your site every day since then, this place is the best!! Anyway, my dilemma is that when I first got Abby I gated her in my room with enough space to play, eat and sleep. I live in APT so that was the only place she was allowed to be at first and get aclimated. (By the way she will be 4 months October 26.) She was doing very well on peeing and pooping on the wee wee pad and I would praise her A LOT when she would go on the pad. After a month, I notice that she was going great on the pad, so I let her have the whole room. Things were going great until a few days ago, I noticed that she would poop once a day on the pad and i found it odd because she was normally doing 2-3 times perday.( I feed her Wellness.) So, i was like maybe she is having an off day. Until yesterday when I saw she hadnt pooped for 2 days! I was alarmed but at the same time I was not because she was not in pain and was eating and playing normally. So as i bend down to pick something on the floor near under my bed, i smell poop. I decided to move my bed and lo and behold, I found many little treaures... I was not a happy camper. So my question is this, do i contain her once again in the gate and restart the house breaking process? I cannot use the crate method because she is alone for at least 6 hours in the whole day and I think that is too long to keep her in the crate. Please help!! Abby's Mom |

| you gotta laugh .... then clean! Welcome to YT, you will find a lot of smart people on here with great suggestions. Same thing happened to me, but since I have a king size bed, I did not notice it until it was fossilized and dusty ...(my sniffer must be broken) I had a base built around the bottom of the bed to keep her from going under there .... you might want to just put things under the bed to prevent her from sneaking under the bed ... these little Yorkies are crafty (and amusing) and they do keep you on your toes .... Good Luck! Quote:

| Lilly's gotten that way. She's great about peeing on her pad but when it comes to pooping she just acts like it's nothing and poops wherever her little heart desires. It's really aggravating.

| Very off topic but My yorkie's name is Abby as well, and she was given to me by my boyfriend too. And Maybe you could put a puppy pad by the bed. Thats what I do for Abby.

| Rocco will not go poop on a pad if he has peed on it or pooped on it and the poop picked up. The pad must be a fresh one. |

| Well, look at the bright side - at least Abby does poop on the pad, so you're half way there. If it were me, I'd sort of start over and limit her time again to break that habit of going under the bed. I think that the problem is that when WE think they're getting trained, WE become more lax in OUR job of watching them. I would watch her like a hawk to catch her when she's going under the bed and/or anticipate when she needs to potty. Keep the faith and be diligent!!

4 months is too young to let have free reign. Mine is 23 weeks and he has free reign only with constant supervision, but he is 95% trained now and gives me ques to go out. I would contain her, use plain white vinegar and water and wipe down all the areas she did her doodle on, as it is marked with the anal gland secretions. So she will go back again and again. Move the bed is need be and clean thoroughly. But do contain her or block her off, put her in the bathroom and block the exit off, that should be ok insteak of containing her in a cage. I have always used the bathroom as the room and it works well. Also jot down when she wees and poos, as she will have a routine and then you can see how regular she is doing it. Time the wees and after each sleep let her out. or leave pads and paper in the bathroom on one side and food and bowl and bed on the next, she will know not to poo where she sleeps. Itake it she wont be house broken in the sense of being taken outdoors? Last edited by soccbydo; 10-17-2007 at 01:49 AM. | |

| I do not keep her in a cage, its like a gate that blocks off the area of where my bed is. The problem is that she is alone 6 hours in each day mon through friday and I cant be constantly watching her to see if she poops. Side Note: This morning she pooped on the wee wee pad twice!! I will have to clean under my bed i guess with vinegar. i only cleaned it with lysol and clorox.
