| AAHHH...my moms dog acts like she is going to EXPLODE!!! Ok... so I have my moms yorkie for 2 weeks. I bought it for her a couple of months ago and OH MY GOODNESS. She acts like she is going to just explode. Can anyone say HYPER???? Now I look at this as my chance to help my mom... but I just got her last night at 10:00 and I am already ready to pull my hair out. Anyone know what to do just to get her calmed down? That is my first objective. My second, I think can be fixed by my first objective and that is to get her not to pee all over everything. She just 'goes' all the time... dribble here dribble there leaking from excitement I think If I can't get her calmed down soon... my husband is going to SCREAM. Sophie, my little 2.6 lb attack dog is going to go in to convulsions the way she growls and stuff at her. She looks like some rabid, aggressive doberman or something. She chases Rusty like there is NO TOMORROW and Rusty is already sick of it. By they way Rusty & Sugar (my moms dog) are 1/2 brother & sister, they have the same momma. Can anyone help, what is step one on getting a handle on this. Angi

| If she is going pee everywhere, you should limit her to access around the house. Also try to not fill the water dish all the way, so she isn't storing water like a camel. Do you have any "thinking" toys? Like a kong, buster cube, etc. this could occupy her and tire her out at the same time. |

| I definitely feel for you...I'm keeping my mom's dog for the week because she dislocated her arm, and she's WORK. She's a 5 year old Yorkie mix, and she doesn't like anyone but my mom, my sister, and me. She's very picky and sometimes agressive to my Yorkies when they get too close to her chew toy or her food bowl. Sometimes it makes me crazy! And I have to care for my sister's Yorkie Chloe all the time too, and she was raised by my mom as well... Let me just put it this way...my mom COMPLETELY spoils them with no discipline, so when they come to me they don't want to listen. My mom is always commenting on how well behaved my dogs are, and I try to tell her in a nice way that you have to have rewards and punishments, the same as you would with a child. Now, I'm not saying I severly punish or hit my dogs, I would NEVER do that...but sometimes a loud clap and finger point and a loud NO are in order! All I have to do now when I see them doing something they shouldn't is say, "NO!" very sternly, and they stop immediately, but let me tell you, it took work! It's very hard when you're caring for someone else's dog who isn't as well behaved as your own...just the same as it would be if you were caring for someone's children. So, I feel for you, and I hope the diapers help! That's what I was going to recommend! Good luck! Last edited by EmrldShdwQueen; 10-18-2007 at 08:00 AM. |

| I'd find a place where I could gate her in. Like maybe the bathroom or kitchen where it would be easier to clean up her messes. As far as your dog, he's just being dominant and protective of his area, and mom.

| She sounds like a doggie that needs LOTS of exercise. She needs a good long run a couple times a day for sure. At home, give her rescue remedy. It's all natural and has a nice calming effect. She's a bit out of control and maybe you could talk to your mom about her taking the dog to obedience training. The dribbling is due to nerves. She is a very nervous dog and is why she is so hyper as well. Good luck with her and keep us posted. Maybe we can come up with more suggestions. |

| One thing that will help keep her from being quite so hyper is exercise. Take her outside and let her run or take her for 2-3 walks. I take Jake out everyday, and he was going through a stage where he would be very hyper in the middle of the night when I come home from work. He would want to play all night. So, I would play with him for awhile and then take him outside to walk around the backyard. When we come back in, he goes to sleep. I'm dealing with some of the same issues with my new puppy, Jackson. He's very hyper and Jake didn't like him at first. But, they have worked all that out and they play good together most of the time. Good luck!

| We went outside earlier tonight for about 30 minutes. We are going to go out for just a few minutes again in a little bit. Tonight seems to be going a little better... but still A LOOOONNNGG way to go. The diaper has been a god send. THAT was THE smartest decision I have made so far.

| Last night went pretty good. She sat with me for quite a while.... just setting there. It was nice. She by no means though is calmed down for good. Today she has been pretty rowdy. When I am not home (work or whatever) I have one of my boys take her out at least once while I am gone. So she goes out about 3 times a day to run around. We have also been working on "set" She does OK.... but it of course will take her a little bit. Anyways... just wanted to update ya... Oh yah... and Sophie.. still my rabid attack dog to her. She hasnt gotten over her yet.
