| ![]() yes, newspapers are a no no......i did that to my first dog on the training recomendation of a neighbor (who acted like she knew what she was talking about). after i did that i realized what i was doing and almost went over to the neighbors house and beat HER with a newspaper. to this day we don't talk and i am VERY sorry i ever did that to my little baby.....cruel treatment for a puppy or adult dog for that matter. tina ![]() |

| ![]() Your puppy isn't running inside and hiding from you because she "know she's doing a bad thing by not pottying outside", she's simply scared of you. The more your puppy is scared, the less likely she is to feel comfortable around you, she will just end up more and more confused. There's no need to stand outside for an hour with a puppy that doesnt know what to do. I set a time limit 10-15 minutes, then they go back into the crate IMMEDIATELY and we try again in another 30 minutes or so. Eventually they will potty outside.. but you need to be positive and give lots of good reinforcement. |

| ![]() Hi, Everybody has given you advice... you should try whatever makes sense to you... I'll try to give you hope ![]() One day something (whatever) should work... I was desperate... I've been desperate for five month... I was mad, my house was smelling bad, I was tired, sad, I regretted my decision of getting a Yorkie, I confess... Then, one day, it stopped... I really don't know what actually worked... I've tried lots of things... But one day it just stops... ![]() |

| ![]() Reward either through a smiling, excited voice, congratulatory pat on the head or a yummy treat followed by "good potty". All pups and/or humans will cower if they are afraid. Even the sound of the newspaper is especially frightening to a puppy. It sounds like you want to be successful, and there are wonderful websites besides YT that can be researched on training. I believe a firm "no" to correct the behavior, but not yelling or hitting. There is a weekly program :It's Me or the Dog-Victoria Stillwell" on Animal Planet that is wonderful. Good luck and soon your sweet puppy will figure out the routine. Warmly,Deborah

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() If I was being whipped, I'd run and hide too. I'm very concerned by your post and for your puppy. I hope you follow the good advice here and treat that baby with kindness and compassion. Whipping is ABUSE.

![]() ![]() ![]() Great reply Alaska! To original poster, it really is a game of patience, understanding, and repetitiveness. Always always praise when your pup has done the right thing. If she potties in the wrong place and you catch her IN THE ACT, just say a stern "NO" or make a noise like "AAkk" (it works), then take her to her intended potty spot, give a potty command and if she does it, PRAISE, treat, reward, dance, laugh, smile, sing. Whatever it takes. She WANTS to make you happy, not be scared of you. All of the advise given here is great, I hope you come back and give us updates on how your little one is doing. ![]()

I am sorry I have to disagree with this!!! Please never use your hand on your Yorkie as punishment and yelling does not gain you any respect from them. A stern low voice is all you need.

| ![]() I am complete disagreement with your statement. There is no benefit with either hitting or yelling except to raise a pup who bites and cowers.
