| Potty Training my little one.... So I got my Bella girl last Tuesday and have had her a week, my question is as soon as I brought her home, we stared crate training her. I am wondering if I am doing this crate training the right way and if not, advice on how to correct it. In the week that I have had her she has not gone potty in her crate and I am really happy about that. She has had some minor accidents, quarter sized pea on the carpet and then we tell her no. 2 times she peed major, but they were my fault because I did not let her out and then I started playing with her and she got excited and peed, once under kitchen table other time on my bed (that was fun!) So... She sleeps in her crate and in the past week normally wakes up once to go potty, 2 nights she woke up twice. She stays in the crate until I wake up, depends on day (between 7:30 to 9:00 am) after she goes potty I bring her inside and then back into crate. Then... She is off to work with me where I keep her in crate right next to my desk and take her out every hour to hour 1/2 to go potty. Play for a little bit off and on. Next.... We go home and play for a little bit and then she goes back in her crate and continue taking her outside. I feed her 1/4 cup of food a day split into 3-4 meals. Am I doing this wrong? I want to let her out to play in the house, but I just bought a brand new home (new everything top to bottom) and I really do not want to ruin the carpets. If I continue on the path that I am going, how will I know when she is trained to not pee inside?? Sorry if I am rambling...I just want to do it correctly. Thanks, Christina and Bella |

| You are doing great. Slowly you can give her more freedom after you know she is empty. Each time she goes outside you give her a little freedom/playtime. That gets increasingly longer as weeks/months go by. Eventually you will be able to still take her out often, but she will not need to go in between when you take her out. If she has an accident, then you go back a step and she spends more time in her crate. You may want to confine her to a tiled area when she is not in the crate if you want to completely prevent accidents on the carpet. Make sure you clean it well with an enzyme cleaner. I don't have anywhere in my house that I could confine mine, so they just got freedom and I kept a VERY close eye on them. Sammy still needs supervision, but she is no longer confined. She is only crated when we are not home. Loki is 100% and rings his bells to go outside.
