Default Won't Poo on Pad

My 10 wk. old pees on her pad everytime on her own, but when she has to poop she goes running from me and tries to poo anywhere but her pad. I have tried repeatedly putting her on it and she runs off of it. I eventually get her on it while she is going so she does go on it but it is definately not voluntary. She has had many accidents on the carpet. Any ideas why she doesnt want to poop on it? Any suggestions what I should do to help her learn to go on it?

My breeder told me that they don't like to poop and pee in the same location, but to keep working at it, and it would eventually kick in. Whenever it looked like my little guy was getting ready to go, I would put him on the pad, and make sure he stayed on it.Then I would really praise him and give him a treat. It did kick in and now there are no accidents, but it did take quite a while.

Thank you! I am going to try that and see if it works. I guess I just have to be patient

That is interesting, now that you mention it mine won't pee and poop on the same pad either. Mine is 11 mos old and goes outside to pee 98% of the time now (thankfully! whew!) but when I'm not at home she pees on her pads.... and generally poops in the litterbox where the cats go, of all places. haha.

My Jazzie who is 10 years old absolutely will not poop & pee on the same pad. So I have 2 pad stations for her.

Jolie & Jen who are 10 months won't pee or poop on Jazzies pad so they also have 2 stations - Yes, I have 4 pads!

I just put the pad down where I find the babies poop the most and they use the pad most of the time.

Paddington will not poop on his pad either. He pees on his pad, but poops outside under our deck, or if we don't see that he has to go he poops in the laundry room. Both places are very secluded, whereas his pad is in the hall bathroom (central to the house) I think this has a lot to do with it- he wants his privacy for #2! I wish I could train him just to poop outside though, rather than the laundry room!

Secret ...a funny thing about Daisy...

This is a funny thread!

It took Daisy a while to figure out where she's supposed to poop AND pee. She is now almost 9 months and until recently had she learned the right spot. She used to do this ''poop run'' (fast circles around the house) before she had to poop and usually ''landed'' in all weird places in the house. Now, she'll do a ''poop pace'' around her pad and usually will end up on her pad..which is wonderful. You just have to make sure that everytime they get it right, you praise the heck out of them and dont forget the treat!!

When I would catch her hunch over and about to poop, I would CAMLY walk over, pick her up and gently place her on the pad...For some weird reason, she doesnt like when you look at her when she poops or she'll stop going and run off the pad to go poop elsewhere. So now, when she does her ''poop run or pace'', we'll look away and so that she'll se that and do her business. LOL

She's a shy pooper!

Avery is almost 9 weeks and is actually doing really well with the pads!! She won't poop on the same pad where she pees though either.. So we put two down-and that has worked out great!! She does go on 1 pad.. in the bedroom in the middle of the night and if she is in her xpen(probably because she doesnt want to go to the bathroom by her bed or food/water.) When she is just out with us at home we use more than one pad and she almost always will go on the pads- its funny because if the pads "arent clean enough" for her liking, she will go right next to it. haha.
I DEFINATELY recommend treats.. and lots of praise when she does go!! The treats help her to remember she did something good and has worked out really well, so far. (knock on wood-haha.)

Also if your puppy nips/bites at you, try making an "owwww" or "ouch" type sound. (i heard this reminds them of what her mom and siblings would do if she bit them too hard, then try to not pay attention to them right away.. or give them a stern look) It seems to work for us, alot of the time. (just thought i would share.) XO.

My baby used to TRY to pee on the pee pad...he would walk far enough on it til his front paws were on it and thats it. Then he would relieve himself missing the pee pad by a hair if not partially hitting the edge of it. Lol. He has gotten better, but he still wont poop on them. He prefers either poopin outside or his favorite spot...in the kitchen in front of the refrigerator. Lol. If I put a pee pad down there he will poop right beside it....such a determined lil stinker!
Good luck to all potty trainers!

I still for the life of me can't get Daisy to want to go on the pad. I have a seperate one for pooping and I trick her by moving it under her really fast when she is going and then I praise her but she will not go on it voluntarily.... Any other ideas out there? I will try anything....
