| scared of vacuum The other day I was vacuuming around Chip for the first time. He was in his crate because I was on a time constraint and was going to let him out in a few more minutes. He'd only been in there for about an hour or so. He has NEVER pee'd in his crate... EVER and he can hold it for quite a while. He holds in all night long from about 9-11 P.M. (when we put him to bed) to about 8-9 A.M. (when we wake up) and when we are at work for 8 hours during the day. I had also let him potty right before I put him in his crate. Well, right after I got done vacuuming, I took him out of his crate and when I picked him up to take him to his pee pad, he was all wet on his hind legs and under his belly. His toys that were in his crate were wet to and smelled like urine. Now, considering the fact that he has NEVER pee'd in his crate and I just got done doing something he's never been around before that is VERY loud AND the fact that he would not follow me outside of our room to go downstairs because the vacuum was right outside the door, leads me to believe that he pee'd because he got scared, which I know is submissive urination. Has anyone had problems with their yorkies getting scared by the vacuum and how did you help the situation?

| Mine is scared of it too. I never lock her in her cage and vacuum near her. It's traumatizing for them to be that scared and not able to run and hide. Last edited by Betty'sMom; 05-26-2007 at 06:28 AM. |

| I didn't even think about moving him out of the room. The only thing I knew, was that there was somebody coming to appraise the house at 2:30 and it was like 1:45. I also thought I did a good thing by keeping him in there because I sprinkled a bunch of pet deodorizer baking soda stuff on the carpet and I didn't want him getting hurt on it. GAHHHH bad mommy for me.

| Sadie has a love/hate relationship with the vacuum cleaner. She follows me from room to room and gets real close to it to check it out - and then runs away - then comes back to check it out again!!

YT 500 Club Member | I don't know if Sophie is afraid of the thing or if she just thinks it is something to attack. But whenever I get out the vacuum, she attacks it. It is an upright with a hose attachment, and she will actually grab the hose in her mouth an shake it. I have to lock her in another room so that I can clean. She barks at it, chases it, and attacks it. I am not sure what she thinks it is. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Morgan is either on the bed/couch while i vacuum or she's in her pen in her doggie house. I'm not sure if she's really scared of it. she probably is a little because its so loud so she just stays out of its way when she hears it.

| how coincidental .....I just finished vacuuming . Usually GiGi is frightened of the vacuum..today as I was vacuuming I looked up to see Pucci standing on my living room chair with GiGi hiding underneath him . I just had to stop and grab the camera....took 2 pics of them. I don't think GiGi was able to figure out how to get off the chair and out of the living room before I got near them. Too cute and funny!! Tina |

Mom to Marty & Maddie Donating Member | When I am vacuuming, my hubby takes Marty in another room to play with him because he gets SO scared. I don't know what I'd do if my husband couldn't help... |

| Chase is afraid too. I learned this after the second time I started to vacuum and he urinated or pooped instantly. Now I put him in another room to avoid the trauma. |
