| potty training This is my first post on the site. We just got our very first Yorkie puppy 2 weeks ago. His name is Bear and we have all fallen in love with him already! He is actually doing fairly well with potty training using puppy pads for urinating. However, he will not poo-poo on the pads. Sometimes he will go outside, but sometimes he won't but will immediately come inside and go to one of his favorite secluded spots to take care of business. What do I do to train him to go somewhere other than my dining room floor? Any suggestions are greatly welcomed! |

| I'm not the best one for an answer, but wanted to welcome you here!! And we will harrass you to post pics of your baby All I can say is to "lock" him in an xpen until he does go. You can develope a pattern and predict when they will do their business. First thing in the morning is a given for my girls, so I put the new puppy in her xpen and won't let her out till she does it! If you take him outside and he didn't go, I'd lock him in his pen until he went. Thats all I can think of!

| Welcome to YT. Maybe when you see Bear go to one of his fav spots you could pick him up and take him back outside. I was once told that if they are going in the housem take them outside for no more then 10 min. If they do not go bring them in and put them in their crate and repeat until they finally go to the bathroom outside. (I think the point of this exercise is so that their feet do not touch the floor and they can not start sniffing) Its not easy but if you stay on top of it I am sure you will be successful! |

| I have a new puppy myself, Rocks. He is 10 weeks and we are training him to use the pads. We have only had him for 2 weeks and just started this... I keep him in a playpen at work and at home. When i let him have "free time" to run around...i watch him for signs that he has to go to the bathroom...when i see it...i pick him up and immediately put him in his pen...he is slowly having fewer accidents.
