| ![]() I have named each of my two dog's toys--hedge hog, orange bone, fuzzy ball, purple toy, etc. and tell them to go get them by name. When you say "go get the purple toy" people thing they know colors! They learn the names quickly! |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | ![]() Wow, such talented pups! * Forward and reverse. * Finishing commands in obedience are kind of cool. With the dog in front of you, you say "around" and they walk a circle around you from right to left and then sit in a heel position. On the other side, you say "come back" and they walk halfway back, turn around and sit in a heel position. * Check out this vid for other ideas. You could teach them to dance! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqbVbPvlDoM

| ![]() Loki can do most of those, but my favorites are wave, crawl and kiss. He runs over to me and touches his nose to my nose. I taught him to do that rather than slobber all over me. I kiss his nose back though!

| ![]() Bring you a tissue from a tissue box, put the toys into the toybox, maybe move onto something new like dancing with your Yorkie? |

| ![]() I was thinking of doing the dancing with my two! I've started teaching Dougal to weave between my legs as I walk. (I use the word "step" because "weave" is for agility). You could also teach your dog to target a lid or a bit of faux fur on a stick. I've taught both of these. The fur on a stick is a great foundation for then teaching "heel" without bending down with the treat, and that's how I started Dougal going between my legs - in order to touch the pole. We use the targeting of the lid in agility to get our dogs to bring their nose to rest on the ground between their paws at the end of a contact. It's very cute when a dog looks like their little head is glued to the floor and they're looking up at you going "can I have a release, puhleeze, mum?". My two dab their heads down then look up at me then down then up - - you get the idea! YOu can also teach them to "touch" the palm of your hand with their nose - this is quite a nifty way to start teaching a recall too! I'm also trying to teach them Left and Right (which hard considering I always forget) I can get them to spin in a circle in either direction, or go round a pole or cone in either direction. I used the fur on a stick to start them out with the right moves then slowly decreased the aid I gave them so now I just point and give the word. I combine two poles and make them do figure eights which is quite cute! I'm also trying to teach Dougal to "limbo" I'm getting him to crawl under a wee pole. I'm doing this to help him build his hindquarter strength. Hope I haven't gone on and on!

My yorkie is a little small for some of that and I may as well have two left feet but something like that would be really fun to try haha!! GREAT POSTING!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()
