Moving to a new house and... Finn my wife's yorkie has been a treat to have around. However... that kid will not get house trained. My American Pitt - Petie - who is 8 yrs old - AND THEY GET ALONG GREAT by the way, learned to go outside so fast and easy. A couple of no's in the act, take him outside, and he figured it out... but little Finn is taking this so slow. He is learning other things great like sit, stay, NO, come here, and a few others -- but our key word is "find your spot", he just won't do. We take him out all the time. Most of the time is more curios about some blade of grass or those things you blow on as a kid and all the little pieces float away... Well we are moving to new house this weekend and I have been reading through your forums here trying to learn somethings. B/c it appears puppies are like kids - they are just learning different these days. BTW: Finn is almost 6 months old. What is the very best approach we can take in the new place. No pee spots, no scents, nothing. Petie will be fine. He will just come and put his head on my knee. But Finn will sneak around under somthing and let it all hang out! Thanks for the help. And for the record here are some pics... heehee Here he is: http://www.phillissa.com/home/index....bnails&album=7 Here is his big brother: http://www.phillissa.com/home/index....album=20&pos=6 And the prize winner for the American Pitt Bull Haters.... not you guys here.. the media is who I am talking about: http://www.phillissa.com/home/index....&album=8&pos=0 Finn pushed his way under petie's arm - petie woke up for a second, sniffed him, and went back to sleep. They had only known each other two weeks at this time... Awwwwwwww!1

I love that third photo of them sleeping together- that is so precious! I personally am a big fan of pit bulls. I think that there are a lot of bad owners over the years that have given the breed a bad name. Sorry, I don't have any advice on the potty issue, I just think your babies are darling!!

Thank you for your kind words. APBT are very misunderstood. I admit, I was in the group until I rescued one just born. Got a book and learned about them. LOYAL dogs. 8 years later, we are still together. Finn is a darling too. He won't stop licking petie in the face constantly. I have seen the look in Petie's eyes after 10 minutes of tongue action to forehead, jaws, nose, everywhere. He just lets out a big sigh and puts up with it. Finn also loves to sleep right next to body heat. He prefers around your neck and chest.. I am guessing heart beat. I think that maybe why he snuggled up to Petie like he did. FWIW, the night that pic was taken, was the night before my wife and I got married... so it was sweet to see them getting along so well so soon. I just hope to house break that little turd. No pun intented...

If you are training him to go outside only, I would put a bellyband on him when he's in the house and take out to an enclosed small xpen after he wakes up, after he eats, after plays and every hour. Put him in the pen and take the bellyband off and tell him to "find his spot" or whatever the cue is and then wait a second. If he doesn't go right away, start to walk away. He will learn quickly that he needs to do his business quickly or you will leave him in there. After he goes, let him out to play and explore a little as a reward. You might try a treat reward too. Loved the pictures BTW!!

Thanks for the tips. We got moved this weekend and it just so happeneds that the foyer closet is a walkin. So, I got a baby gate and have kept in there taking him out to find his spot every couple of hours. He still only pees. Should not be long now though. | |
