| car seats Does anybody use car seats for their dogs, if so, how long did it take for them to get used to it. Mine hates being restricted in the car and cries (more like screams) the whole time. I need her to get used to it! Any tips for car travel? |

| What type of seat do you have and where in the car is is located? We first tried the Outward Hound Lookout Seat that straps onto the passenger seat. Sissy HATED IT and would just try to climb out the entire time along with whining. Then I got a Snoozer Console seat and she loved it right from the beginning. Angel also likes the console seat, though it isn't big enough for both of them!! I think they like that they can lay down, yet prop their little chins and still see out and that they are very close to me. I can actually have my arm around them, and I'm plenty close for kisses at the red lights!!

| I use one for Teddy. He loves it. We did use the console seat I bought on the internet (I don't know it might have been the snoozer) I didn't care for it as he would stand on the sides which weren't rigid and the whole thing was just terribly distorted. But it was his spot and he loved being in it just the same. I found it to be quite tiny and we spend so much time in the car that I thought he needed a bigger one with more rigid sides so I made one of my own. I used the straps from the old one in the frame of mine so it straps in exactly the same only now it has rigid sides and a super soft inside with more room. He really loves it and sometimes when we get home and it's time to get out he would just rather stay put! LOL I think your solution here might be in where you put in the car. Try putting him in the console area if you can and I bet his screaming will stop. Kim

| Thanks for the tips, I tried the outward hound seat which is what she hates but today I ordered the lookout seat that is like a bed. I am hoping it will have more room and she will just lay down and sleep eventually. I guess we'll see! |

| I have the outward hound seat, I just bought a week ago. Here is my story: I took him to the vet and ran other errands and he whined the whole entire time!! He was in his airline carrier which I let him sit up so he could see but it didnt help. I knew I was going to eventually have to invest in a car seat but tried to put it off. He was so outdone with that bag, he climbed out and layed on the seat of the car (see pic) Because he drove me crazy with the whining, that same day, I went to Petsmart and bought the seat and put him in it. He seemed to like it. He didnt cry as much, he actually fell asleep but I think by then he was so tired he couldnt help it!! Plus it was better than the bag. Seriously, its like having a kid!!

| I have 2 yorkies and 2 lookout carseats...unfortunately my babies still hate them and my younger yorkie cries the entire time he is in it. I'd love to hear suggestions for helping them to get used to their seats!

| Sam does good in his car seat. I buckle him in and give him his birdy toy and bully stick. He is good to go. He has the passenger seat Outward Hound.

I got my two used to their car seats by taking them on very short trips at first. I only took one at a time, and I'd alternate every day. I'm talking 5 minute rides at first. Gradually, they adjusted and I'd take the two together, also for short trips. Now they love the car, each sits in his own seat by the window. With time and patience, I really think they will learn to love it.

| My dog used to ride a lot, everyday at the beginning to and from work with me but never got used to travelling. I tried a zipped mesh carrier buckled on passenger seat or an open console-type seat. He hates both equally but at least in the carrier doesn't try to get out like from that open console. He's not even interested in biting anything. I still drive him around and he at least moved from screaming (oh, I know those ) to whining a little from time to time. He usually settles down once a little tired. And I learned not to pay attention too much...

| Mine love their lookout! I switch it between 2 cars so I bring it in the house and set it by the front door. I find them laying in it all the time just as a bed! Maybe try it in your home like that?

| Both of mine have the Outward hound seats. I also put a small pillow in them for comfort. First trip from Mobile AL to Austin Tx, Adonis whined till we got to the MS state line....a good 30 minutes out of Mobile. He quietened down after that, and now loves to go to Austin with me when I go. I've taken Venus down to my sisters a few times. The first time she whined. Since then, she's ok. For some, it just takes a little getting used to. We haven't been back to Austin since I got Venus. |

| Loki treats it like his crate. He sleeps or rests his head on the side and looks out the window. He rarely squirms or cries when he is in there unless he needs to pee. To him, car rides are a good time for a nap. We started with the car seat when he was a baby so he never got used to being held in the car. It makes him feel more secure, in fact he pants and shows more nervousness if he is sitting on my lap in the front seat. He actually prefers his seat. Sammy came to us very scared of the car. She cried and was shaking the whole time during her first car trip with us. She wouldn't even take treats. Her crate made it a little better and cuddling her and wrapping her tight in a blanket helped too. We just took easy, short trips. After a few trips she was much more at ease. I tried putting her in Loki's car seat and she squirmed a little until she realized she was strapped in and couldn't get out. Today she tried out her VERY OWN car seat, of course with big brother Loki right next to her. She looked out the window for a while but otherwise seemed OK. They both slept the whole way home. Also, it helps to REALLY wear them out first. Go in the car to somewhere fun, like the park. Go for a long walk. Then put them in the seat and let them sleep the whole way home. Let them associate the car with napping
