Default *#^(&@# DOG!!!!!

i feel like i am going to cry...... toby was doing great he went on his pad 99% of the time.... and NOW he hasnt gone on it once in two days it seems he would rather pee NEAR the pad ON THE CARPET!!!!! I am sooooooo frustrated right now.... i just went back to school (so he might be a little upset, but my fiance is with him, its not like hes alone) ...... no matter what, HE KNOWS BETTER!!! he acts guilty which causes me to go around the house and look for "spots", and then when i find the spot.... i dont even have to yell, i could WHISPER "bad dog" and he runs for the hills, i know it is patience that is key but geez im starting to lose my cool on this one, i would understand more if they were more like "accidents" but hes doing it on purpose......

Girl I hear ya! Hercules is around Toby's age so I know what you're going through. Last night he peed right by the door to go outside, it's like they do these things on purpose! And I get so frustrated.

I guess we just have to try to remain as calm as possible and give them time. They're still really young after all.

Add Mia to the rebellious group. She is 28 wks. I'm hoping she gets over this SOON!!! She has had more 'time out' time in the last week than since I've had her.

Default Add mine to your list too.........

My Mia is like that also. Do you think size has alot to do with it? My older yorkie, Muffy, doesn't have any accidents in the house, but she's 10 lbs. Mia is 3 lbs. It's really frustrating. I tried laying a whole bunch of wee wee pads in the area she usually goes, and she still finds the floor instead. She's really good about when I take her out, she pees every time. But it seems like I don't take her out enough. When I saw the title to your post, I was laughing before I read your post, because I knew what it was. lol Gotta love em, huh? lol

You can add my Gucci to the list. Well she uses the wee wee most of the time to peed but she will always poop under the table or the bed. SO lately I have being placing a we wee pad under the table and bed but she manages to do it on the floor. I tell my hubby if he sees her doing the pooping dance to rush her to the pad but he never does, so maybe that is why she keeps pooping on the floor. Gucci is 6 months and weights 4.6 lbs.

This is unfortunatly the pitfall of paper/wee wee pad training. It's hard for them to get the aim right and once they miss, it is hard for them to determine what is OK and what isn't. The clearer the instructions, the easier it is for a dog to succeed. That's why I prefer training to go outside. The difference between inside and outside is so much clearer to them. If it is at all possible for you, I'd recommend retraining to go outside. So sorry to hear about your problems!

Due to the 4-seasons it is not always the best of temps to me for Schatzie to have learned to go pee/poo outside, so we started her from the get go on pee pee pads.

I promise you, they do "get it" after awhile...It's probably just a maturity thing. Schatzie when she was younger made mistakes by missing the pad and going right next to it but she pretty much has it on "target" now. She is just about 9 months and 7.5 pounds.

In the beginning we never let her have free run of the house either. She had to stay on "tile" floor unless we could watch her CONSTANTLY. As she matured she "earned" her trust with the entirety of the house.

Please, keep working with your babies and they will get it...Hang in there and don't give up and it only works to scold them when you see them "doing it in the act".

Just wanted to give you hope to all this!! I completely understand your frustration and even adult dogs have their "accidents"..

It will get easier

I agree with yorkiepower. Mine went on the pad but missed a lot of the times when they peed at the edge. They will go on a throw rug, so if outside training is not feasible for you, maybe you can get a bathroom rug that is larger than the pee pad (with the rubber backing) and put under the pee pad. Then you can just throw it in the washer.

i hate apartment life ....... ok........ i have had in teh past every single dog i owned go outside to potty..... BUT i moved out of my parent house and into my own apartment with my fiance, we moved onto the second story.....I am 22 years old and allready have really bad arthritis which is why i cant go up and down the stairs to take him potty every two seconds, AND he isnt exactly "legal" yet in our complex (if you know what i mean)..... but i agree with you yorkiepower... if only it was an option (unfortunatly it isnt).... i have had another thought too, he has gotten bigger so he pees more, and the pad gets more saturated quicker (he has 4 pads to choose from at any given time) ..... i dont think he likes to pee where it allready has like two or so pee spots on it.....so he would rather use teh carpet instead....... but..... he also cried like no other when i cut his nails (which he usually just relaxes and thinks of it as a massage) and i didnt even trim anything !!!..lol... such a drama king..... anyways, so now i am also thinking it is a cry for attention because i went back to school and work and am gone most the day (guess my fiance isnt the same as having me with him....... because it isnt like hes alone)

ok this is spinning me in circles..... i feel like one of those twisty tops... HE WAS ABSOLUTLY FINE TODAY!!!!!!!, well,,...... he was acting a little odd (he usually jumps all over me when i get home ready to play... he jumped but after he settled down and wanted to be held .... dunno what that was all about).... but seriously, there were practically no accidents (one accident but it was a "miss")... i guess putting him on time out really helped huh?..... when he had accidents i was so frustrated and fed up with EVERYTHING (work, school, assignments, family, ect...) that i just didnt want to deal with it, so i put him on a "time out" in his little confined area ... well see if this newfound eager to please attitude sticks this time

My yorki's do the same thing. Most of the time I've noticed that they're in the area of the pads, they're either looking at them or standing partway on them and they hit the floor. I always just tell them good dog for this. They are trying to hit the pad, sometimes their front feet are on it but their back legs aren't so they hit the floor. Sometimes they're right by it and see it and pee right on the floor. It might be that they believe they're on the pad. I dont' know what a dogs depth perception is. But usually when they do pee on the floor, i've found this to be the case.
Of course there are those times when they're nowhere near the pad and what i do is pick them up, put their nose close to it and tell them no, bad dog, I then take them over to the pad, put them on it and lift their leg if they're a boy or kinda make em sit if they're a girl and tell them to pee here, good boy/girl. That usually helps as long as I do it every time. There are no perfect weeks but some are better than most. It's so hard to remain patient with them but you have to. They don't actually understand English. You can train them to understand some words but it does no good to lecture them. it's all blah blah blah blah blaaah greakjlajf f;akljfdlafj to them.
Just keep working at it. If we get lazy our dogs get lazy.
