| How to stop this behavior? I have a little problem while walking my 19 month old Yorkie. He has started to bark/growl/jump at every person he sees that walks buy. This is a bit annoying because everytime a passerby comes along all of a sudden he gets a nasty attitude toward them. How can I stop this behavior? Would a simple heel be the trick? Any suggestions are appreciated. |

| I have the same problem. when I stop to talk to anyone they usually stop after the person pets them. I think it is territorial with mine. they are wanting to protect me. this is a guess on my part.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I have the same problem, he barks at strangers all the time until he sniffs them and gets comfortable with them. The thing is that at our walks he doesn't really get the change to do this. I don't like people getting the wrong idea about my yorkie, everybody thinks he's a bad dog Anybody has any suggestion??? |

| I will try to use used soda can with 10 pennies. Shake the can if he did not respond to your command. I use "off" and if she does not respond I shake the can. The can will make unpleasant noise. She will stop and eventually stop everytime I say "off" |

| The behavior involves more than just meeting stranger on a walk. He does not respect you as the pack leader. That needs to be established first. Visit thedogchannel.com. Cesar Milan addresses this issue, extensively, as it is the root of most all behavior problems. It's not enough to simply correct the behavior, you need to get to the root of the problem. Treat the disease, not the symptom Learn how to teach your dog that you are the pack leader and you will deal with strangers. When on a walk, first of all keep them on a very short leash. If they start to lunge at ANYTHING, simply say "leave it" and keep on walking. Stopping to visit is not advised until they learn some manners, and learn that you are the boss. Obedience class is probably an excellent idea also. |
