| Nite time crating My yorkie is now 9 weeks old. I put him in his crate at bed time, and within 2 hours he is whining. I take him to the bathroom and put him immediately back in the crate. Two hours later, whining again. Doesn't always use the bathroom when he whines. I tried something last night (good idea/bad idea - not sure!)...at 1:30am, I put him in the bed with me, and whatdya know??? He didn't budge until 7:30am!! Is he just trying to get attention in the middle of the night? Should I take him once and then let him whine a little more the second time until he goes back to sleep? Any ideas would be great!! |

| depends on whether or not you want him sleeping with you. if you definitly want him to be crate trained... then what i did with layla worked... when she cried.. out we went to try and potty.. i didn't talk to her much. just took her out and back in we came... was it tiring... oh ya! but now she sleeps through the night and LOVES her crate! |

| If you do that, he might whine constantly until you let him sleep with you. Also, just because he didn't pee in your bed one night doesn't mean he won't the next. Loki only peed on our bed once and it was MY fault because I had him up there during the day, he was too small to jump off and he had NO idea he had to go because he was still a baby. He slept in his crate in our bedroom until he was probably 8 months old. At least. I can't even remember now! At least in his crate he would bang on the cage and cry to wake me up so we could go outside. Loki sleeps with us *now* when he wants to. He can jump on and off the bed. He usually starts on the floor in his bed and ends up snuggled up next to me, but he can get on and off as he chooses. At first we just closed our bedroom door and he would scratch at the door in the middle of the night when he needed to go outside. Then we taught him to ring bells and he goes downstairs and rings them (I always wake up) so we can let him out. You should try covering the crate and putting it in your bedroom. Also, try setting an alarm for 2am or whenever so YOU can wake HIM up and that way he doesn't get in the habit of crying all the time. We had scheduled potty breaks, or if either of us woke up we would just take him out then.

| I sit Darla's crate on the bed, that way we get the best of both worlds. She's only a little over 2 pounds, so I'm afraid of her falling off the bed, but having her near me gives her comfort and she sleeps through the night. |
