New Owner Training Hi Everyone: i am new to this forum and find it VERY insightful. I can't wait to get to know everyone. I have a new yorkie and he is very energetic and very bitey. I am crate training him, meaning that he does not come out of his crate unless he goes potty or for confined play. We use lots of chew toys with him. 2 things I have found that work well are: using the penny shaker when he is chewing or getting bad. It really works and 2: He is very young (12 wks) so we don't take him out yet but I do put his harness and lead on and keep him near me in the kitchen with the lead attached to a chair. It gets him used to the harness and he is relatively confined plus he is so small that there is no risk of bringing the chair down! Also LOTS of positive reinforcement.

Welcome to YT Chewy and Chewy's mom. Im so glad that you love this site. I have learned so much here. I have a question do you keep him inside the crate all day? I dont crate train but i heard is not good to keep a pup confined inside a crate all day. Some people here has xpen to keep them confine and the area is bigger than the crate. THis is just my opinion. I really dont know how you are training him. So i hope I didnt offended you in any way.

Hi, no offense taken. I don't leave him inside all day, I keep him out where I can see him and play with him in only non-rug areas or just hold him in my lap. He's out a lot but I don't leave him out when my attention is diverted away. I am, though, thinking of getting an xpen that he can play around in because he has ALOT of energy.
