| potty training HELP! Ok, we have a shorkie (yorkie s**tzu) who is almost 5 months old. When we first got him he was paper trained. So we had a pet pin that was 24 inches tall that we would keep him in when we couldnt watch. He never had an accident, he always went on his wee wee pad. that lasted for 2 weeks, then he started to climb out! So we bought a 36in tall pin, we he got out of that too. So we got rid of the pin. Now he only likes to pee in front of our TV. So we put his wee wee pad there. BUT he only goes next to the pad not on it! I have tried all the pads, the ones that smell like grass, the sprays to attract him and he still goes there. I even steam cleaned the carpets with stuff that is suposed to make him not want to go there but still not luck. HELP!! |

Sorry for the following silly questions: 1.Are you praising him? The reason for this is because mine did that too and what we do is if he goes on the spot that he needs to we praise him and he really likes that. So much that he will potty and then come to the gate bark, like saying look I pottied where I should. That might work. Just reinforce it with praises. All we do is say Good Boy. 2. is the pet pin like a kitty litter bin?

| we had to stop using the pin because he jumps out 2 sec after we leave. so he has the room to him self... but if we take him out side he LOVES the grass and goes right away. I praise him then, but he never goes when im in the room. but as soon as i leave.. theres pee on the carpet! |

| I read that if your pup is going potty in the same place and it's not where you want him to go you should put his food right over the spot.. they won't go where they eat! I did this and it worked... I just had to watch like crazy he didn't go any where else! I crate him when I go out.

| Why don't you try crate training - they can't jump out of a wire crate!

| we were doing that, but he crys and barks and bothers our neighbors. And we are at work all day, i feel bad leaving him in there for 4 hours at a time. Has anyone had experience with the litter boxes. Which works better, wee wee pads or litter box?? |

When you can't watch him, can you not either 1) put a lid over his pen or 2) contain him in a small room that doesn't have carpet and is covered in paper? (like a bathroom or laundry room?). Be sure that you don't reprimand him too harshly for peeing on the carpet. That leads to a dog who hides from you when he has to go. Instead, if you catch him in the act, interrupt him and hurry him outside. If he's already finished, quietly clean him up and vow to figure this out. Have faith. You'll get there.

| I have two boys. They STOPPED marking when I made them some pee poles. I filled empty 2 litre coke bottles with water. I lay a piddle pad on the floor and set the bottle in the middle of it and drape it with another piddle pad! Now they hike there!!!!!!!!! |
