| Treats! Hi everyone! My Lola's a really picky eater when it comes to treats! I know, crazy, huh? I have her in the Petsmart classes and she will choose whether or not to participate depending on whether or not she likes the treats! I must have bought over 13 bags of various meaty treats that she will refuse to eat! I have found one treat she does like, it's chocomilk... which is great cause it's got vitamins, but I'm afraid she'll get sick of it soon. Is it weird for her to be so picky with meaty snacks? And she is learning her tricks very slowly it literally takes weeks if not months and she'll only do it with help from me... hand gestures... please help!!! |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Wow, you have a finicky pooch! I had to google "chocomilk" to make sure it was a real doggy treat. I was afraid you were giving your pup chocolate, which is a no no. My guys LOVED the first treat I ever gave them, Yummy Chummies, and they've never gotten tired of it in more than two years. Of course, it's made in Alaska and not marketed well Outside, so you'd probably never find it. I'm not sure how healthy it is, but someone recently told me to get a can of Alpo and cut it up in smaller pieces, then microwave until it gets kind of rubbery. Let it dry, and you've got some soft, homemade treats! As for healthy treats, some people use cheerios! But they aren't the best for obedience because they take took long to chew. Good luck!

| My yorkie, Hobbs, is the pickiest eater I've ever met! He turns his nose up at 99% of treats that I give him. I have found one treat that he absoltely LOVES! They are called Canine Carryouts and Hobbs likes the beef and cheese flavor. You can get them anywhere....Walmart, Petsmart, grocery store, etc. They are not especially good for them, but it's the only thing that works for us. Maybe you could try those! |

| I have had some picky eaters too. Have you tried freeze dried liver treats, mine loved them and they are all natural. Oh and you don't necessarily have to train with treats, some dogs do better with other methods, if you need any ideas feel free to pm me.

| I just received a sample of a new dog food, Life's Adundance Premium Health Food and along with that sample, we also received a sample of Wholesome Heart Low Fat Dog Treats. My picky earter actually ate some of the food kibble, but gobbled down the treat like there are no tomorrow. They are sold by HealthPetNet. A 12oz container is $10.50 and one treat is pretty large. I broke it up into about 8 pieces. It contains, "Rye, Ground Brown Rice, Oat Meal, Stablized Rice Bran, Flax Seed Meal, Pumpking, Chicken Meal, SLiced Apples, Drived WHole Eggs, Squash, Chieckn Fat, Yellow Field Peas, Diced Tomatoes, Green Split Peas, Cranberries, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cloves, Allspice, Ginger, L-Camitine" with crude protein of 13.5%, crude fat of 8.0%, crude fiber of 3.0% and moisture of 9.0%. I think I'm going to order some. P.S. Welcome to YT!!

| Thanks everyone for the great ideas... I will try the liver treats... Lola prefers "sweet" to "meaty" i think, and recently I purchased some freezed dried Ice Cream, which the checkout guy at Petsmart says "I havn't seen ANY dog refuse this-ever!" She loves them. I know right? I'VE never even tried freeze-dried ice cream and here she is... spoiled rotten. It's ok, if she loves it...I'll provide it! |

Tatums also really loves the lamb lung treats that I get at Wal-Mart. Sounds nasty but she thinks they are the ultimate! She gets them after baths only so we'll have something "special" for bath time. She also gets a new bully stick then too. We had to find something she'd consider special when we stopped giving her Greenies after bath time. One thing about training though.... when we were going to training classes, the trainer suggested cooking a hamburger patty (or warming up one of those pre-cooked ones), tearing it in teeny tiny sizes and using that throughout the class time. She said that the treat you give during training needs to be something really, really appealing to them. We did the patty thing for class but I don't give it to her anymore. Other than that, I can't really help much because Tatum likes just about any treat out there..... good luck!

That was another thing the trainer talked about.... not feeding your dog before class. They need to be hungry and eager enough to want those treats. Maybe if you're doing the training at home, save it for the evening but don't give her dinner until afterwards.

| My dogs are picky picky picky also. You should make sure your puppy "a little hungry" when you go to these classes. This works wonders as far as helping them "want treats" of any kind. Good luck! Carol Jean |
