| The way I see it (if I was in the situation) there are 2 solutions: 1. Ignore his barking, because by giving into his barking you are telling him that he will get what he wants, when he wants by barking, plus that makes him the alpha dog and not you, which is a no no. Trust me, YOU want to be the alpha. So try to ignore it, as hard as it is, he will inventually tire out and sleep it off. 2. Create a new sleeping area for him such as a crate/xpen which will be HIS sleeping spot. So he understands that he has his place and you have yours. This won't be easy but consistency is key. Whatever you do, STOP sleeping with him on the couch, that will only feed into his alpha ego. WELCOME TO YT!..lol...I hope this helps.

| You could always take him to bed and close the door and see what happens!

| Sounds like your little dog is ruling the roost ..... I can't imagine that you do sleep on the couch to appease your dog. If so, this was your first mistake. I think a lot of training really is "not letting bad behaviors start in the first place" because once you do - they are a lot harder to stop. Perhaps if you hadn't let him get you sleeping on the couch - he would have given up trying a long time ago. I'm sure you'll get a lot of suggestions on what to do now... I can say that usually when my dogs want to do something or want me to do something that's not going to happen - I just ignore them. Good luck! Carol Jean |
