The way I see it (if I was in the situation) there are 2 solutions:

1. Ignore his barking, because by giving into his barking you are telling him that he will get what he wants, when he wants by barking, plus that makes him the alpha dog and not you, which is a no no. Trust me, YOU want to be the alpha. So try to ignore it, as hard as it is, he will inventually tire out and sleep it off.

2. Create a new sleeping area for him such as a crate/xpen which will be HIS sleeping spot. So he understands that he has his place and you have yours.

This won't be easy but consistency is key. Whatever you do, STOP sleeping with him on the couch, that will only feed into his alpha ego. WELCOME TO YT!..lol...I hope this helps.
