| My little guy, who is four months old now, usually does No. 1 and/or No. 2 anywhere between 5 and 20 minutes after he's eaten -- it just kind of depends. Most Yorkie books say 15-20 minutes after eating.

| my 3 month old does her business about 1/2 hour after meals but under 1 hour definitely...we were potty training her this long weekend and it's amazing how long she was holding it (not that we wanted her to) We put her in a crate after her 6am meal, took her out 1/2 hour later, no pee/poop (keep in mind she has not learned at this time to 'go' outside yet). Took her out at least every hour after, still no until finally 1pm, she went. It got better with time now that she realizes she can go outside...she's not very good with doing her business during walks unless she cannot hold it any longer so I decided to set up a newspaper area in the backyard to emulate her potty area in the ex pen and put a ex pen outside. Innitally, it took a while but now, she will do her business within 10 minutes from being put outside if she needs to go. I try to catch her in the act, repeat 'go potty, go potty' and give her a treat when she's done and let her out of the ex pen back in the house. After that, 1 hour of free play in the house then back to the crate. Hope this helps you as well.

| We took Loki out every 15-30 mins at that age. Not just after eating, but we always took him out that often.

| You should take puppies that age out right after waking, shortly after eating (take a good walk to help them digest), and if they have been awake playing for more than 45 minutes. Always use the same door so they know which door to go to, to show you they need out. However, my smart little guy will go to the door we can see to let us know.

| I'm grateful for this thread and the imput from those of you who have been through it already. Bailey is coming up on three months (12 weeks tomorrow), and her response to housebreaking is spotty (no pun intended - but it does describe it well). I take her out as soon as I get up in the morning, and there's no problem with her peeing quickly. We've started giving her treats for that, and almost as quickly as I'm telling her "good potty" she's running back to me for her treat. I've learned to give her a little more time, though, because she will often stop to pee 2 or three times within 5-10 minutes. Maybe she's just breaking it up for more treats! Then we come in and I feed her. We usually go back outside about 15 minutes later and most of the time she'll poop pretty quickly - within a very few minutes. The rest of the day is a problem. She never goes more than 2 hours without a potty break (unless she is asleep - then she's taken out as soon as she wakes up). Sometimes we will be out with her 15-20 minutes with no response - then she'll squat to pee on the floor within minutes of coming back into the house. Can't decide whether to cut her some slack for being a baby or chalk it up to juvenile defiance. Either way, she's so darned adorable it's hard to get or stay mad. |
