| hmmm I don't know how I did it, as it wasn't on purpose, but I think Moe read the tone in my voice....he knew when I was saying something cause I meant it vs saying something in fun or praise.Dogs read our body language and tone quite a bit to decipher what it is we want, make sure your body language matches what your wanting the pooch ta do.Here are a few articles I found on the subject though: http://www.canismajor.com/dog/hereboy.html http://www.perfectpaws.com/whytr.html

| Make COME a game! Oh my, Wosie is so good at it now! Of course, I am a briber, and not everyone goes for that, but here's how I did it! I had her on a short leash, had her sit, and then down/stay. Then I walked to the end of the leash, said "Wosie COME" in a really happy happy voice, gave a gentle tug on the leash, and she came to me! I also make her sit when she gets to me, and then I praise praise praise, and give her a tiny bit of a treat. Anything I train I do it in 10 to 15 minute increments. Too long and you lose their interest. Just do it multiple times a day. As I got her to come without tugging on the leash, I released her from the leash. (indoors only) Now I can walk as far away from her as possible, and she will come to me. I now use hand signals, (arm out to the side, sweep hand to chest for come), and she comes to that as well. And I also call her multiple times during the day when she is out of my line of sight and she comes to me. I don't know if she would do it outside without a leash. I would be afraid to try. I would have to practice that at a dog park or some type of enclosure. Good luck! Be friendly, happy, and make coming to you the happiest thing for your pup to do, and they will WANT to come to you!

Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | I definitely have to put some time and energy into this! Right now, abbie thinks "come" means lay down and bark at mommy - or run as fast as you can in the opposite direction! Our Mozart (11 y/o) still has his stubborn spells; but, for some reason he will respond when I say "ONE"...as if I'm counding down. Now, this might make sense IF we counted to (say) three and then took some sort of action; but, we NEVER have! LOL And, it can't be my tone, because I use the same serious tone to say "come" when I really need him to obey. So, when he's in one of his moods, it might go something like this: "Mo, come" [Mo looks my way]

Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | The "power of ONE!" hehehehe....Glad, I just had to invoke the power of "ONE!", to get Mo in from outside: Mo - "bark, bark, bark..."

| JaspersMom gave you some good suggestions already. I did it similiarly but without the leash. I started in the kitchen when he was close by and could see that I had a treat. As he started toward me, I said come. Repeat many, many times gradually increasing the distance that he has to come to get to you until he comes running from all over the house to get that treat. Then take it out to the backyard, then gradually take it to places where there are more distractions. For me, "come" is such an important command that I always reward with praise and a treat. I don't want him stopping to think "hmm..does she have a treat or not?". Joey knows come = treat. If I don't have one on me, it's even more fun because I say "lets' go get your TREAT and we run together to go get one. As Abbie's mom has learned, it's not a good idea to repeat your commands. They learn they don't have to actually come until the 3rd command (or whatever your limit is). If they refuse a command, gentle make them follow it. For come, if they are on a leash, pull them to you if they don't come when called. If not, go and get them.

Hannah honey, when my son comes to visit again, I would LOVE to have him meet you! He's a great guy, almost 25, works at IBM, and he's a Duke fan! We got to catch a Duke/Wake game when he was here in January, and he just kept thanking me, lol! He also loves Yorkies!
